Recently I have started running, and its safe to say that i have never felt better. I am not running to lose weight, or join a sports team or anything, but rather just to become an all around healthier person. Accompanied with better eating habits, running is relatively easy, regardless of what you may think. Being at college for around 5 weeks, I certainly have improved from where I started. Even if you are overweight, or morbidly obese, running is something that anyone can do. You don't have to run 10 miles a day, or even 5. Start off easy with a mile or two and see where that takes you. It seems for most people it is lack of motivation that causes running to become "boring" or "stale". What people don't realize is how much good it does to your body. Instead of opening that bag of chips and snacking away later, why don't you try going out for a run? If not a run, maybe a jog? A walk? Anything that will help benefit your body. The increased physical ability will translate to other aspects of life. You will see an increase in motivation all around, leading to better performances in everyday tasks or even your job. You might be reading this right now, and be thinking to yourself, "I don't run and I'm totally fine. I don't need to run, what is this guy talking about?" Well... you won't understand what it's like until your out on the road running.. or even walking the sidewalks of your town.. or perhaps at a local gym. Not only will you feel better about yourself, think about what people think of you when they see you running through the town. You look good to them, and you MIGHT just motivate them to get into running! If you don't know where to start, it's pretty simple. Start out by walking a mile. I sure as hell hope you can do that. Once that is completed, slowly increase you speed. See how fast you can run a mile. Maybe its 10:00 minutes, maybe it's 5:00 minutes. I'm not going to give you step by step instructions on how to work your way into running, because there are already thousands of websites out there that can explain it much better than I can. Most importantly, make sure to warm up, cool down, and stretch. You never want to hurt your body when working out, so make sure to take proper precautions. I am just amazed at how much of an impact running can have on your life. When people say "ball is life", I understand that saying. Except, i like to say "Running is life"



I'd run if I didn't have exercise induced asthma, which causes me to wheeze really badly and taste blood in my mouth. Plus, I always injure myself, even if I warm up and stretch first.

Ah. There must be some alternative to running that can provide the same benefit. Biking? Yoga?

I -love- running, and I do it as much as I can, which isn't very often nowadays.  I need to commit to another race so I will have to get back on a training schedule.

5k races are the best! nice and short, yet they certainly are not easy in any aspect! Its a great goal for a new runner

I'm wanting to start running too. It's so hard to find the time. You wrote some pretty motivational stuff and I'll come back here and thank you when I take the initiative to start! My boyfriend (who also hasn't started running) has decided to sign us up for a 5k night zombie obstacle run in a couple of weeks and we are so unprepared. We're going to get eaten alive if we don't start soon :(

I have the same problem as Satsuki. To say i cant run for my life is probably wrong (as im sure i could), but i could just survive if its a sprint and i have a safe place to regain conciousness :). Apparently i just have this problem with running, skating, or biking or walking (from my place to uni and back) are okay, and i do so.
