Being a gamer is so expensive...

Posted by Canis, 18 October 2014 · 1101 views

video games expenses i need a job
So, I currently have no income, and haven't had any since I escaped left Texas.
My boyfriend Erik, who is my current financial support, lost his job a couple weeks ago due to stupid reasons (fuck you, T-Mobile) that he will most likely be pursuing legal action for.

Both Erik and I are avid gamers; I'm more of a PC gamer, whereas Erik is a console gamer. We dabble in a bit of both, however.

With all these upcoming games, and our lack of finances for games, I get kinda sad thinking about it. :/
Thankfully, Erik has filed for unemployment while he goes on a mad search for jobs. I just hope he gets a good one soon.

I'm currently looking forward to buying:
  • Dragon Age Inquisition (Inquisitor's Edition) ~$170
  • Pokemon Omega Ruby ~$40
  • Assassin's Creed Unity ~$60+
  • Super Smash Bros. Bundle ~ $100
  • WiiU ~ $300+
  • WoW time (thankfully, I have WoD pre-purchased) ~$30
  • Rainbow Six: Siege ~$60
  • The Division ~$60
Games Erik is looking forward to/looking to buy:
  • Evolve ~$60+
  • Alien: Isolation ~$60
  • Assassin's Creed Rogue ~$60
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare XboxOne Bundle ~$500
  • Battlefield Hardline ~$60
Yup... super pricey. :( I'm so sad. Gamer heart broken. *first world probs*

Yeah, video games are expensive aren't they :x You could always just get a refurbished Wii U for $200 on Nintendo's site and I'm sure there are refurbished/second hand Xbones for cheap as well!! That should save you a bit of money ^^

If you were in Brazil, it would cost you 3-4x more, so you shouldn't really be complaining xD

I'll have to look into the refurb WiiU, that price isn't so bad! I don't typically buy used consoles, but with our low budget we probably have no choice. :( The Xbone will have to be new though, since he's getting the bundle as a birthday gift to himself.

Oh, yikes! O_o Well, I'm grateful that I don't have to pay all that much then. xD

I used to be a hard core gamer. Have you considered modding? It saves a lot of money.

And the worst part is that games are not really getting more expensive, it's like a hot fuzz. Back in the day you and only you played TES I: Arena (and you'd be lucky if you met someone who also did); Today, everyone *Gary Oldman's intonation in Leon the Professional* plays TES V: Skyrim! The businessman logic's: 1980 - "Oh, (s)he wants to play this brand-new technology, let's charge him(her) high!" | 2010 - "Oh, (s)he wants to experience this like everybody does, let's charge him(her) high!" It never gets better :(

On the plus side, you can buy the games used later on and save lots of money then buying new. :)

I've started waiting for games to buy used because it does save so much money. Saves enough to buy more games. It's a bummer sometimes when your friends are talking about such and such new game, but I always feel happier when I put some extra cash in my pocket after buying it used for more than half the price. :o I do buy myself new ones once in a while, only if it's something I've been looking forward to for years (like smash bros). xD

On the bright side, at least they don't cost 3.5 times more! (Shipping fees isn't even included)

Well, being the one who had to cancel the pre-order for the Xbox One (Which comes out on my birthday) And really wanting to make sure Fanged gets Dragon Age, I can easily also say, fuck you T-Mobile.
