I might have caught the Contest hosting bug...

contests hosting
I've been pretty good when it comes to participating in contest here at Neocodex. The only ones I've not entered since I became active again are ones that I don't possess the skills to enter (SOTW, Photographica, etc.). But the ones I have entered? So much fun. I love contests here.

So I recently ended up hosting the Customization Contest (#13), and--surprisingly--I enjoyed hosting! I was really nervous at first, but now that it's all over, I'm really excited to host my next contest, whatever it may be! :)

Before hosting, I had thought up some ideas for contests, but now that I've actually hosted one, my contest idea juices are flowing. xD So here's what I'm thinking of hosting (please don't steal!)... Also, if you have any critiques or anything, let me know!
  • Poetry Contest - I searched the forums and it seems that there was only ever 2 poetry contests. I'd like to get that up and going. Am I even allowed to pick up where they left off, or can/do I start my own recurring Poetry Contest? O_o
  • Haiku Contest - There have been no Haiku contests here, to my knowledge at least. I know people would enter this, but... hmm.
  • Pokémon Fusion Contest - So, you know those Pokémon fusions that circulated the internets about 2-3 years or so ago, and you still see some cool/funny ones every now and then? Yeah, I wanna host a contest where people use the Pokémon Fusion thing to create their own fusion. But how would I go about doing that? I would like it to be a recurring contest, but how? Themes? But what would the themes be...? Creepy, Funny, Cool...? I could do make it to where every PF contest would be the different Pokémon personality types (the 25 Natures).

Example:

I can see where that idea can be rather complicated/difficult, but meh I'm at a loss for how to do that one. Perhaps themed like the Customization Contest sorta? Themes like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas? No, that would be difficult too... blah. I dunno. HALP.

But yeah, I really wanna host another contest soon! :)

I'm glad you like contests here so much :)

For the poetry contest, you can start it up again! I would like to keep it as one where the person who wins runs the next one just because I don't want too many contests to be run by just one person - especially contests that are run frequently. That way people are able to have more chances to get awards for hosting contests and whatnot. Plus, it gives us more brains to think up themes!

A Pokemon Fusion contest would be able to be more specific to you because it's for a certain game/skill. Adam ran the Hearthstone contest himself and Romy runs the Pokebattle Royale contests and they're great hits. If you need any help, you can contact our resident Pokemon experts or me. I can't promise that I'd be able to help with any of the Pokemon details but I can definitely help you set up the contest :p

Yeah, I agree that the winner hosting the next contest for a recurring contest is good for keeping ideas fresh! ^^ Plus, if it weren't for that, I wouldn't have hosted a contest, nor would I have desired to like I do now. xD

I'll definitely look more into the Pokemon one, though!

Thanks Emily! :)

The poetry contest was supposed to be absorbed by the writing contest, but Baswick is slacking his duties. (also haiku is poetry, so I'm not sure where you're going with that) Wanna go ahead and do the next random themed writing contest and just make it poetry?

Great job on the contests, @Fanged, and I really like seeing that you are enjoying them. :) @Napiform that's an excellent idea to put that into the writing contest fold!

Well I meant to have a purely Haiku contest, and the poetry be either rhymed or free-verse. Or limerick. Whatever. I dunno what I was thinking there. xD

Thanks Kord! :) I'll have to refine these ideas more. Perhaps along the way I'll come up with some more, too!

I'd rather keep the writing (flash fiction) and poetry contests separate, just because they're two very different mediums. And yeah, no reason to have a standalone haiku contest.

The reason for keeping them together is because there isn't enough interest in writing at all among the users to separate them. The writing contest covers all kinds of writing and the host just picks whatever they feel like:, different kinds of poetry, prose, screenplays, whatever.

^ I like this better. Not everyone can write poetry, screenplay, etc. But this puts it all together.
