A reflection from a former self

Posted by Arnau, 02 June 2015 · 825 views

Former self in default. New responses if any in red.

Ever had a near death experience?
I've had several. Several of them include cars, others involve personal injury, once I got thrown off my bike, others involved getting lost and being in sketchy parts. I almost starved myself once in Florida because my cousin was a vegan.
Where’s your cell phone?
Close to me.

What is the last thing you thought about?
I really hate group projects when nobody else takes responsibility. So glad we don't present until wednesday. How can I obtain a new job? Do I have enough cash to pay bills?

Do you regret anything?
Life's too short for regrets but I am saddened by a few things.

If you found out you were pregnant who would you tell?
Tell? I'd be too worried figuring out why I was pregnant and what was wrong with my body due to there being something wrong with it.

When was the last time you talked to one of your best friends?
Yesterday. I haven't talked to anybody today. About 2 months ago.

Do you prefer revenge or just pure jealousy/envy?
Neither. I'd prefer these visions to go away.

Would you curse in front of your parents?
I try not to curse. Why not? Both of us can handle it.

What kind of camera do you have?
Nikon D90. I've spent enough on it that I think we're married.

Would you rather go to a party or out of town?
Out of town. Might do my head some good. :)

Are you slowly drifting away from someone close?
mehhhh. yes and no. I'd rather not though.

Who can you tell everything to?
Allison. Who's Allison?

Can you play guitar hero?
Ahahahaa. Such a funny question.

is any part of your body sore?
My shoulders. I was lying down the wrong way. What isn't?

missing someone right now?
A few people.

is there someone on your mind that shouldn’t be?
Nope.

Do you like your phone?
I like keyboards :D.

Have any of your best friends ever back stabbed you?
Yep. Must've been 3 years ago? Odd, really. Her mom once told me that 'I wish she had stayed in school with you. Perhaps, then she would more like you.' Now her mother hates me and she wishes she could see me.

What’s the seventh text message in your inbox say?
"I'm disappointed I couldn't see you. I just wish I had more time. Good luck the rest of the semester and I'll be in touch."

What did you do the weekend?
Massive amounts of procrastinating.

Met anyone new in the past week?
Nope.

What does your bestfriends call you?
"J"

Who was the last person to go to the movies with you?
Kiersten. We saw "The Box." Before that, it was "The Hangover" with John and Josh. Great movie :D.

Are you currently fighting with someone?
Not that I'm aware of.

Last time you had butterflies in your stomach?
A while ago.

Who/What would you like to see right now?
People.

Are you mad at someone right now?
No.

Do you mainly use your house phone or your cell phone?
Cellphone.

Is there an empty place in your heart?
No.

Do you count down the days till anything?
Break.

Are you looking forward to something as of right now?
Yep.

Have you ever been called a tease?
Yes. I am a tease.

What are your chances of getting with your crush?
Sort of hard since I'm not interested in dating at the moment.

What is the farthest you’ve traveled with a friend?
Puerto Rico. Fiji.

Are any of your friends so close that you consider them family?
Yes.

Anyone told you a secret this week?
Maybe?

Do you ever turn your cell phone off?
Yes. No.

Do you hate anyone?
I don't think I'm capable of hate.

What do you want in your life right now?
People. Sleep. Less schoolwork? Ok, the third one might be asking too much.

When was the last time you laughed so hard you thought you were going to cry?
Few weeks ago?

Did you tell someone something today?
Yes.

Do you trust people easily?
no...not at all. Rather hard to gain my trust. It d
epends on the person.
What were you doing at 9pm Friday night?
Procrastinating schoolwork probably. Drinking or r
eading.

Things I learned that my fish tank didn't teach me

Posted by Arnau, 26 May 2015 · 740 views

I think I've learned some great life lessons. I hope that I can pass on this possessed "knowledge" and perhaps prevent others from making the same mistakes. "Knowledge" is in quotations because I have a far way to go and have come to the conclusion that I know nothing when I look at what can be learned. Perhaps, a different term is needed to better describe the right word?

So, without further ado, I present you with what I've learned through life's journey.

1. The most important thing that can be done is to question anything you read or hear. The only way that one can learn is through questioning. Even when you think you understand something, question it anyway.
EX:There was this time where I thought I understood what was being asked on a paper so I proceeded to do the long paper without asking the teacher what they wanted. My interpretation of the instructions turned out to be completely wrong and I ended up getting a 70 on the paper. Had I asked, the grade would have been higher.

2. It is hard writing in a voice that is not your own. Just be yourself. You'll find writing easier and enjoy yourself a lot more.
EX: When I first started writing, I didn't know who I was so I hid behind different styles. I still don't know how people can recognize my style from others but hey, its better than nothing. I, no longer, feel the need to hide behind my writing and expressing myself is now much easier. The only way for others to find your voice is if you allow it to develop on its own.

3. Making someone's day doesn't take much.
EX: A few years ago, my birthday was going horrible. I had gone through the majority of the day without being wished a happy birthday. I checked the mail and there was a letter for me. Inside was a birthday card and money. I can't remember what I spent the money on but its long been gone. The card? I still have it.

4. There is nothing more welcoming than human touch.
EX: I've realized that no matter how bad my day is going, a simple pat on the pack or a hug and a smile would brighten up my day almost instantly. I've had some pretty bad days and the combination of a hug and a smile brightened up my day, whether the individual knew it or not. Thank you.

5. Always back up your work.
EX: As I was writing this list, my document froze. This hasn't been the first time it's happened. I've lost my work before. It's not fun. Better safe than sorry.

6. I've learned that the people I care about most in life are taken too soon.
EX: As a child, I was close with my grandfather. I would ride his horses, chase chickens, and eat mangos and coconuts. When I was twelve, he died. I've lost a few people by failing to keep contact with them. I, no longer, have their numbers or any contact information. I hope I can maintain contact with the people I care about. I really do care about them.

7. Don't fear mistakes.
EX: I've come to the conclusion that the more I try to prevent mistakes, the more mistakes happen. Hubbard showed great wisdom when he said, "The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one".

8. If I could take it all back, I wouldn't.
EX: Everything in my life has lead to something else. Some great times, some bad times. However, I learned that thinking about any past situations doesn't get me anywhere. As such, I decide to live in the present.

9. Learn to say no. People will understand.
EX: I used to be the type of person who said yes to everything. As a result, I was overstressed and barely had enough time on my hand. Say yes, only when you know you can handle it.

10. Keep everything in perspective.
EX: Looking back on the past few years, I've noticed I blow quite a few things out of proportion. A few months from now, it won't matter what I got on a test or why I can't go to a friend's house for the weekend. In the end, none of it will be remembered.

11. Experience is the best teacher.
EX: Nothing can beat experience. I've gone a year without actively using Photoshop and InDesign. Looking back on it, I can not remember how to use some shortcuts.

12. I have many more lessons to learn.

Lessons learned from my fish

Posted by Arnau, 25 May 2015 · 520 views

  • Posturing is very important. Improper body posture can give another fish the wrong idea. This may lead to a prompt and hostile rebuttal.
  • Assertiveness pays off. The passive one does not get to eat the bloodworm. But be too assertive, and your mate will hate swimming with you.
  • If you don't want intimate relations, sometimes the best thing to do is to swim away if they don't take a hint.
  • Sometimes rock bottom isn't so bad. You'll never know what you'll find among the gravel.
  • Find your safe spot, and defend it to the death.
  • A clean home is a good home. Poop too much in one location, and you'll be forced to evacuate.
  • Small fish really are safer in numbers.
  • Sometimes the flashier fish aren't always the nicest fish to be around.
  • Just because they're the same species, does not mean it's meant to be.
  • No matter how many times you may try the poo, it will taste the same every time. Some things are best to give up on.
  • Just because someone is giving you attention, does not mean that they will feed you. Begging does nothing.
  • The fish that does not swim with the group usually has health problems.
  • Everyone has their place. Some are surface dwellers, others, bottom feeders. Find your niche, and don't feel bad. Not every fish is a renaissance fish.
  • Know your schedule well. Feel empowered. The timer on the lights will always go out at the same time. This is nothing to go berserk about.
  • When it's your time to go belly up, don't worry. It is a journey we all must take.

Football is an odd sport.

Posted by Arnau, 24 May 2015 · 567 views

I live somewhere where football is bred into children the second they are born. Football season is 3 months away but you'd think it was football season right now. So, I'm spending my time trying to entertain myself on the internet as I wait for my hot wings. Why not football? I don't particularly enjoy watching people more athletic than me do things I could never do on national television for insane amounts of money - but that's just me.
I decided to dig up some statistics about the average NFL game:
- The amount of time the ball is actually in play is about 11 minutes
- 56% of the game shows replays
- Commercials take up about an hour
- About 75 minutes is spent on shots of players huddling
- Injured players got six more seconds of camera time than celebrating players
- Announcers are on screen for about 30 seconds
- Shots of the head coaches and referees took up about 7% of the game
- Cheerleaders get an average of three seconds - if shown at all
- The ratio of inaction to action is approximately 10 to 1

So if you watch half an hour of actual play time, you would have to sit through five hours of replays, commercials, and just a general heap of nothing-ness.
Enjoy the game! :)

Story of a guy

Posted by Arnau, 23 May 2015 · 802 views
introduction
I'm not sure what this will develop into but I feel as if i should start by letting you venture into my past to hopefully understand me better.

1. I am intellectually opposed to the idea of one God and am completely anti-dogmatic – But strangely enough, I sometimes find myself praying to a middle-aged white man with a beard and flowing robes. I blame this on my mom, who sent me to summer Bible Camp at a very susceptible age.
2. I truly believe the cliché that everything happens for a reason – Seriously, I can analyze anything that has happened in my life – good and bad – and see immediately why it was supposed to be that way.

3. On an average night, I get 3.5-4.5 hours of sleep. I can survive and function well on those hours.

4. I appear to be withdrawn when first meeting someone but this disappears as I get to know them better. I've been told I sometimes appear to be 'elitist' but they realized this was untrue later.

5. When I was in 4th grade, I attended three different schools.

6. I’ve hurt three people in my life that I loved – Due to fear, stupidity, immaturity, selfishness, you name it. I’m sorry.

7. I’m double-jointed. When I stretch, my fingers can reach back and touch my wrist.

8. I write poetry, but I don’t write nearly enough. Sometimes I get scared that I will stop altogether – That after each poem, that will be it – I fear I will run out of things to say.

9. I rejected an opportunity to go to Disney World for free when I was in Florida.

10.
When I was 2 years old, I stopped breathing for a few minutes. If I hadn't been rushed to the hospital, I would have been dead.

11. I lived in Australia once – For a year during college. I’ve been wanting to go back ever since.

12. I don't know the names of most celebrities. Don't ask me "who is in that movie?" I don't know. That also goes for people who sing and most other public figures, BUT I can almost always name the author of any book I've ever read.

13. I like being surrounded by people of multiple intelligences. I don’t ever want to be the smartest person in the room. I already know what I know. I want to know what YOU know and understand things from your perspective.

14. One of my life goals is to join the Peace Corps.

15. I have a third nipple.

16. I love touching lives, and by writing, taking pictures or simply being around, I would like to think that I have been able to solicit a smile or two. Come to think of it, that is probably my greatest passion.

17. I have this tendency to not really make my bed.

18. If there's just one line in a song that captures my mood, it'll be played on replay over and over again until I get bored of it.

19. Though I grew up in a city, my roots lie within the country as my grandparents and parents were raised on a farm.

20. When I was young, I absolutely despised music. I refused to listen to any type of music. This changed when I was 14.

21. I think 25 things is a lot of things to divulge.

22. Everyone I've dated has had blue/green eyes.

23. For me, the 9/11 event was like a near-death experience. It made me loosen up, live for the moment, take more chances, because I could die any time. I don't understand why it had the opposite effect on everyone else.

24. I really dislike people who act like they know everything – I like the fact that I learn something everyday and I try to appreciate the humility that follows – I’ll quote William Durante – “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.” If we stop being ignorant, how will true education continue?

25. I could extend this list indefinitely.
