Ok, I have no clue what's considered grave digging or not. I remember it used to be 2 months but it's been getting stricter (According to members anywho) and the rules don't say anything.

Yeah I would like to know to.
Two months? o.o I thought it was 1 month...

But people say that grave digging is like 2 weeks ago... *confused?*

In my opinion it depends completely upon the situation. If the post actually adds something to the thread then i don't think it should be considered gravedigging (however long it has been since the last post), but if the new post adds absolutely nothing then it should just be considered as spam like usual.

Yeah, gravedigging isn't really something you can put a box around and confine within that area. It's more of a situational thing. Pretty much what LW said, it is fine if it's adding enough for the thread to be bumped up again into activity (nothing like "wow, that was cool" type comments), but if the post offers nothing, just report it, and Mods can simply Invisi posts, making the thread go back to it's original point.

Honestly, I'm not really sure why there's a rule called "gravedigging". What does the date of the last post have to do with what I want to post on an old topic? Someone who posts in an old topic should only be punished if he posts something not useful to the discussion, like "cool topic!"

Ye cannae post 'ere lad, it's gravedigging.

And...if you are going to post...at least contribute o-o. You silly boy!

General rule before you post, as it doesn't seem to be getting through.

1. If the topic isn't on the first page, you generally don't want to be posting in it.
2. Make sure you actually have something meaningful to say.
3. If you're having a fun conversation with someone that isn't meaningful I can't rant at you for that because I do it, but don't post random posts.
4. Research something a bit before you make a random topic, I'm almost certain it's kinda obvious me and Joe aren't actually married for example .

I really disagree.

At times there will be a topic going for weeks and it is the #1 for 3 weeks in a row. I really do get tired of seeing topics after a while. But when it goes a way, two weeks later, someone pops that old post up just because it was fun for the moment and wanted to get it started again. It's annoying.

I was told that if it was off the second page it was gravedigging with an active board in general chat, so I do apologise for acusing you of that if that's what you want. But come on, you typed yes three times and grinned, you can't really complain...

Edit: Actually, on the spam thing, if you -had- said something meaningful instead of 'yes yes yes =D' I probably would have ignored it, but because what you did was basically just as good as typing '+1' for your post count, I commented tongue.gif. I was actually trying to be helpful so people didn't hate on you as they already have dry.gif.

LOL!! Try not to be so helpful next time, especially if there dont appreciate it tongue.gif

Hmm in my opinions for active boards like general chat the topic can be considered grave dug if someone reply to posts last replied more than 3-4 days ago, since quite a few new topics are created daily. For the other sections, it could be set at the 1st page, or perhaps a 2 weeks ( its considered quite a long time to me already thumbsup.gif ).

Back Seat Moder. tongue.gif XD

I close if for grave digging if they just spam the topic for post count, because then there will be more people spaming, yelling at them for spaming and so on.

But if you close the topic you'll also be preventing people from making sensible contributions to it in the future. tongue.gif

Exactly, which is my eyes is why Staff should just invisi' the 'gravedug' post. That way, topic doesn't remain cluttering up Page 1 and nobody gets flamed either.

Invisible the post and take 2 off the spammer's post count is what i'd prefer. tongue.gif

Nay, there's no need to use post count reduction as a punishment, as it only encourages and promotes the concept of post count = reputation. Maybe SMods+ can just remove the one post, but Mods don't have that ability, which just leads to inconsistency and hence my belief for no form of punishment.

I think it shouldn't be considered for 3 months or so. Because, if theres a thread about a certain topic already going why start a new one? Any longer than that they should just make a new thread. Just my opinion though smile.gif.
