Does that mean NC items are now on the money tree? Or do you just donate them (for the rewards) and they disappear?

Pretty sure they don't show up at the tree at all. You get your rewards, and they disappear.

The items disappear and you get your rewards. Hopefully you can make enough to pay for the cookie itself by the time the 4 days are up.
