You're sharing your bandwidth, it's like sharing water around your house, if someone is using the faucet while you shower, you'll get less water. Same effect.

Probably because everyone is using cable/dsl for broadband and longer story made shorter isp's prioritize download over upload.
More technically it's because the connections are Asymmetric so packets can only go in or out and not both so they sacrifice upload speed for download speed.

You seem really knowledgeable. For ages I have been looking for ways to apply some sort of limit for other peoples bandwidths if possible. Some of the tenants downstairs really abuse it by torrenting 24/7. Wondering if there are ways to go about doing this

Anyway! According to BBC wales (where i live) will be one of the first places in britan to get fibre optic within the next few years - fingers croseed for 40mb/s!

Max Download Speed (After Exceeding Threshold): 5kb/s
Average Ping: 1000ms (1 Second)
Daily Threshold: 200Mb*
*After this is exceed the speed lowers to the value above for a minimum of 24 hours.
We pay 70$/Month
