I guess what I'm asking you folks who do celebrate it... What are gifts that are traditionally given/good to give for the occasion? (That aren't flowers and/or chocolates...)

Cook some chicken alfredo (noodles, chicken, make your own butter roux or buy some sauce if you're not a cook), get a nice big box of white wine (or a bottle if you hold those kinds of standards), watch Anchorman, enjoy being the greatest boyfriend ever.

He's an alcoholic and Anchorman sucks.

Anchorman sucks.
Tonights top story, Trichomes wouldn't know funny if it tore his throat out.

Oh, a joyless female. What a shock.
You leave her and her big boobies alone, Abra.
Plus, Anchorman made me respect Will Ferrell as a comedian. So yes. It rocks.

Cuddly toys are more traditional presents. Obviously, don't go for the tacky ones you usually see in greetings cards shops. Pick one out that will have more meaning to her - a favourite animal or something.

Like a card, or a sweet letter. Personal selfmade gifts are worth way more than any diamond
Cooking is also a biiiig plus!
My boyfriend requested cake and cookies for valentine, so that will be it
Mini cupcakes and sugarcookies with icing.

(^) this recipe is great and really easy
you can substitute chicken tenderloin for shrimp
(i would simply bake or grill the chicken with the seasonings listed for the shrimp, plus salt and pepper if it does not call for it)
i also got tired of the parsley and threw in some spinach instead (cheaper as well)
{{edit}} oh and it calls for clam juice - but that stuff is completely over processed and tastes like old fish at best. i left it out for both versions of this recipe.
and the best part is that the wine you use in the sauce pairs perfectly with the meal and tastes great :3
to really do it up go to a thrift store and pick up a table cloth
(quick run through the washer and dryer)
and some candles
just make it romantic :3
easy peasy, cheap and really sweet

Nice setting, low lighting, real fire? red things, light lots of candles, make the area special, roses, rose petals, something she likes? Iduno kittens?
Cooking is a fab idea! If you really cant, order some nice food in. Put her fave music on your iphone, get her the usual fave chocs, maybe some nice lingerie, or something you know she wants.
Just something that has involved more effort than is normal is appreciated
GL!
EDIT: Haha Polka great minds

Song choice? Perhaps something to really set the mood, you know?
This one comes immediately to mind.

mwaha, nice on trich!
so cody, what about giving her anyething she wants and told you about? you don't need to wait till her bday or xmas or whatever and you know she'll like it. i hate valentines day and i think everything people usually buy for that special-ass-day is roses, chocolate, jewlery and heart shit..., right?
