The nice thing about Typing Terror is that the game takes under 3 minutes to play and is 1000np every single time. Even if you don't get any of the broken or upside down Grundos, if you just type accurately you will score 2500. The multiplier has always been more than .4. viola 1000np.
Other than the minimal difference that perfect typing makes, the main difference in scores is the number of upside-down Grundos eliminated and especially the number of broken Grundos eliminated.
You get 12 grundos on level 1, 14 on L2, 16 on L3, 18 on L4, and 20 on L5
No more than 4 will appear on your screen at any one time.
yellow grundos give you 5pt
upside down (red) give you 20pt
broken (red and purple) give you 100pt
on each level, count the grundos as you eliminate them
when you get to 4 less than the total for that level, slow down--do not eliminate a grundo unless he is about to break through the glass, or unless you have the 4 max on the screen
the reason is that you want to allow a broken to appear in the back, and eliminate him, instead of eliminating a lower-point grundo and ending the level
if you have the max 4, eliminate either the closest to you, or if there are a couple lined up in front of each other and one more off to the side, eliminate the lone one--so that if a broken appears you have a better chance of being able to see the letters on him
there is a temptation to go for upside down reds here, but hear the voice of experience say that they do not make enough of a difference to justify reducing the chances of hitting a broken that appears at the back
That's the strategy for doing the best you can on each level; here is a strategy for getting the avvy (3600pts):
If after level 1 you have less than 600, start over
If after level 2 you have less than 1000, start over
If after level 3 you have less than 1400, start over
If after level 4 you have less than 1900, start over
If after level 5 you have less than 2500, start over
Note--the level 1 value is intentionally high, because I hate playing too much before having to give up.
And after any of the levels you can always go ahead with a lower score and see if you don't end up with a surprisingly good level to make up for it.
But again, this is the voice of experience saying you can either read my guide and trust me, or second-guess me and almost certainly end up frustrated
There's math and years of trial and error behind that strategy. Once upon a time (2001-2003 era), Typing Terror was a Virtupets Space Station World Challenge game almost every single day. A score of 3500 was almost guaranteed to get you a puzzle piece that hour. And this strategy (minus 100 in each of the above values) was guaranteed to get a score of 3500 at least once an hour.
So anyway... saw someone complain about getting the avvy in a status, and thought I'd whip off a guide for y'all before I went to bed.
Cheers!
