So remember back a few months when that low-key US pastor wanted to burn the Koran, but didn't end up burning it? Well, he burned it finally, and the Afghans are pissed:

Ten people have been killed in the Afghan city of Kandahar during a demonstration against the burning of a Koran in the US, officials say.

Hundreds of people took part in the protest. Gunfire was heard and cars were set on fire.

On Friday, seven UN workers were killed after a protest over the same issue in in the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif.

It was the worst attack on the UN mission in Afghanistan since the international invasion in 2001.

What I don't get is that the US officially condemned the actions of that church group, and the UN workers dying aren't even Americans -- I think a Swede died, a Romanian died, etc.

It kind of saddens me that people will kill and burn shit over something so material, as if they can't find meaning in their own lives or something. People think it's insurgents that are stoking the fire over there though. What the pastor did was also stupid too, because he's not living to Christian principles (which he is supposed to hold himself to if he's a pastor).

I believe both sides are wrong. It's really sad that the pastor wants to target a whole religion for something a few extremists did. And it's wrong for these to react with violence against people who had nothing to do with the pastor's hateful idea. Everyone needs to calm the fuck down. But yes what the pastor did was extremely disrespectful and pretty much against the whole Christian notion of "love thy neighbor" that people seem to just forget even though they can quote Leviticus at the drop of a hat.

you must have a very small, pathetic god if he can't even defend his own honor... not much of a deity
and there's a huge difference between a religion whose deity die for his followers, and one who demands that his followers kill for him

Who now a days who are Christians follow the principles? Pastors are hypocritical around here, but you can say that about anyone else right? Agreed this just is plain sad...I'm sure he wouldn't like it if someone had burned the Bible.

It's just a book.

Exactly. That's why I don't see the big deal. And you shouldn't get asshurt and kill lots of people if you think the words in the book have some sort of meaning to you. They are, in the end, just words printed in ink in a book. That is what got burned.

I know many pastors who are the best of men. It's just that the hypocrites get more attention.

firstly: does any god defend his/her own honor?
secondly: I don't think that Allah is forcing these people to protest, you defile something someone deeply believes in and there's bound to be some backlash.

The Afghans are killing the wrong people.

Why'd the dude go and burn the Qur'an now? The Muslims have been pretty quiet lately, except for overthrowing their own governments.

That guy totally has it coming if a fanatic decides to each him a lesson. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Oh, and there're still US troops in Afghanistan. It just shows how much he cares about the safety of his fellow men. He should have his title of pastor stripped from him and be thrown in prison for endangering the lives of the men and women still in Afghanistan.

People are crazy for religion. Doesn't matter what religion it is for, either. The killing is against the religion of both sides, so no one is justified. I'm surprised the priest didn't make more of a fuss like he did the last time over burning the Qu'ran.

That and religious leaders should teach people to be tolerant of other people and religions and not burn other religions holy books.

The fuck.

Would have been a worse outcome if it had been "Twilight" tbh. Those kids love their Edward.

that's just it: anyone who believes in a god, should be willing to admit that either their god is real and will do it himself, or that their god is false and not worth defending...

There's a quote from an old lady I heard once "God only has these hands on earth, as his are in heaven *holds up hands*" Some people think the will of a god is their devine duty to enact.

True, but it is all to do with upbringing, just like the high average of people who find out if they are gay or straight at a young age...

That brings up the topic of "born gay vs. choose gay," no? Upbringing is so much of the world these days so far as racism and classism, and various isms are concerned - in my opinion. Stereotypes are one thing, but discrimination is another.

Well i was brought up in a way my parents didn't do shit, i was basically the target for everyone. Cracked skull, broken bones, bruises, visits to the hospital without any help from parents, i learnt the world is shit, but during growing up, my friends showed me the awesome shit. So how we are raised shows everything, i can choose to go fuck a dude up the ass now, but i wont like it, simply because growing up i had to de-stress in a way that by the time i was 9 i was looking up porno's. Its the way of life, you are what you are.

Well that's appropriate. :/

How did Koran burning turn into a discussion on homosexuality anyways?

β€œWe want the preacher who burnt the Holy Qur'an to get a severe punishment,” said 20-year-old protester Jalil Ahmad. β€œHe is not a human being, he is a brain-dead animal.”

Says the might as well be brain dead dumbass who completely blindly follows a book. I don't like extremists or very showing religious people, a good sum of middle eastern people are said religious types. Thus I don't like most of them. Racist? Sure. Do I care? Nope. Get with it and get out of the gutter we lived in hundreds of years ago.

"those Christians" set up a horrible example for any other Christians out there. In no way would a right minded pastor/priest/whomever burn another's religious paraphernalia to prove a point.

Anbeezy, instead of thinking of them as pastors etc, just think of them as someone like you, then would you think in their right mind's would they still burn it to prove a point?
