Any programs i should be keeping an eye out for when i go shopping?

Ummm, well good luck shopping for mac programs. The system is notorious for the abysmal variety of available programs. Unless you're a graphic designer or a studio technician, I can't think of many programs that you would need to buy. Most everything you use a PC for on a daily basis can be done on a Mac without buying any additional software.

I guess to be safe, I can recommend Firefox for OSX, which I use solely for the "Private Browsing" function. Safari works just fine otherwise.

Also, if you're a gamer I highly suggest downloading Steam. It's probably the best platform for online game content for Mac. I guess you could browse through the App Store for other up-to-date software, but it's not like you need a Firewall or professional strength virus scanner.

Did not even think about looking into steam, thanks for the heads up.

Yeah its taking me a while to get use to it all. I am liking the idea of little to no virus's very much. Main reason I bought it to be honest. Not a video editor/photoshop dude which is good, considering the price for those programs.

I don't suppose you have looked into any of the music software & hardware, like the keyboards for example?

(^) here is a review for audio software for Mac

as far as anything else i would get a sleeve for it to go in so that it does not get dirty
they will clean your computer for you at the store (i'm pretty sure it is free for everyone)

oh, and if you are a university student you should check out any software that they are selling at your school
at my college we have a contract with Adobe and i bought my software at an extremely reduced price

Haha, yeah i got the extra three year protection thing.

Had too many problems with my past laptops, needed a change. I was not long ago telling people the same thing Waser Lave. Haha, have you had bad experianced with MBP's before?

As far as cheap software, Im in the defence force, so no discounts for me. Did just download the new CS5 pack which saved me $1800 though :)

Well I like graphic designing and animating but I don't have a mac so I have no clue if half of the things I'm listing are already installed o.0

Anyways. I think VLC, iMovie, iDvD and garageband are already installed but I just wanted to list them in case one isn't.

Other things I like are ffmpegX (media converter, useful even if you don't design/animate much), Final Cut Express (video editor), iStopMotion (frame by frame animator), Sixty Force (turns your mac into a N64! :D), Transmission (torrent dl'er)

If you have an ipod and wish to transfer music files from the ipod to your comp get Senuti

Again, this is just the stuff I use/play around with at school and on my friend's macs....

Not a video editor/photoshop dude which is good, considering the price for those programs.

Who said anything about price? Posted Image

you cant do anything on a mac...all programs come out for windows first, and then maybe they will be release for the mac.

Yes.
My boyfriend's shipped with a defective gpu which was prone to overheating. It eventually failed when he was gaming on his Windows partition (Macs suck for gaming btw) and now it doesn't boot.

Macs are prone to overheating in general. My regular white Macbook has reached internal temperatures over 100°C, and has shut down due to overheating. My battery life has also decreased significantly and needs to be replaced in the near future.

yea actually that happened to my mac book pro. I can't keep it on my lap cause it gets too hot even when im doing nothing except typing, eventually it got to the point where the charger cord literally began to melt when i was trying to play world of warcraft on it..

Mine starts to get hot whenever I do anything that uses flash...so I have to avoid doing pretty much everything.

A lot of applications have compatibility issues with Mac even after being ported to OS X.

mine gets hot the moment i start using it for anything, it starts burning when i use graphic intensive programs. and if i play video games the charger cord melts. Needless to say i finally replaced it with a laptop that was not a mac.
