On the first page you linked, the X6 outperforms the i7 on 3D rendering, and only a 1.6% increase in video rendering time...

I suspect the reason for the price difference was the fact that I was looking at using a six core i7, not a four core.

Actually, the graph seems to be labelled incorrectly. The bars apparently display the results from Cinebench, where the higher the output, the better the result.
You can check this by googling other Cinebench scores for comparison.

Its a nice setup you have planned, a few suggestions though.

With regards to graphics cards, Either go for 2 lower end ones or get a card specificly for video editing. Also if you need any help or advice with putting it all together

Yeah but the thing is with I7's, they go to 4.0-4.8 ghz on air easy (overclocking) DRASTICALLY reducing rendering times, you should look into overclocking if you want to get more out of your computer.

Also I would get the sandy bridge (2500K+) as they aren't that much more expensive.

As far as harddrives go, I would go for as big as possible. The space that programs take up seems to be growing exponentially, because memory is becoming so cheap and plentiful, and things seem to be gaining more and more resolution.

Thats actually what caused one of the many xbox 360 red rings, because the games had too much resolution and polygons and whatnot
