Is low HP, high attack, low defense still a viable BD build?

Im currently have a pet with ~20 hp ~45 str, and <20 def.

Would it be viable to continue training this pet to >55 str? Or would this new league system make such a build obsolete? I really want to use my ECA

It was decent a while ago.

With the new swords a high HP build is the best one.

Why do the new swords change the BD landscape so much? In fact, shouldn't it mean that BD becomes more offensive in general, which is beneficial to my high-attack with freeze build?

I thought people matched up based on STR anyway. Wouldn't you just play against people with way more HP?

High HP is the way to go

Not really.
Mid-level BD has now become a game of bashing each other with 18 iconners.

Imagine that this neopet:
~20 hp
~45 str
<20 def

Battles a neopet like this one:
70 HP
12 Str
20 Def

Both are supposed to be on the same league, but the one with the high HP can endure the double of icons.
Faerie abilities, D! and TTear would be among the best "shields" they could use, but that is pretty nough for allowing your opponent to survive.

And even if you are using ECA, if your opponent also uses it, the HP disadvantage would probably counteract your Strenght advantage.

It's a bad idea. You will get owned by Glowing Cauldrons.

I would only train your HP from now on

Unless you are quickfighting, you won't get a chance to use ECA at low boosts because the weapon is banned.

I'm at

more hp =D ziz is right. you can use the hp defensively and outlast your opponent while being able to take out their hp with relative ease

I agree, train only hp forever

Ignore all suggestions to only train hp. However, if you are following the league system, the higher hp builds are worth considering if you have the right set to compliment them.

I would say it's better to have a balanced pet.
but feel free to train HP only, as Armoured Negg is quite cheap; and for STR you can use Altador Strength Potion.

hp is needed more then ever now, the new swords removed the effectiveness of the ghostkershield n faerie talbard. unless you can find a way to permenently use TTear, you prob need hp.

The new swords encourage more hp, and yes, the bd has now become a bashing game

An ideal build is usally having one Defence boost higher than your Attack boost, then maxing out your HP. This is because Defence rating carries a much lower weight, but it's practical applications are nearly equivalent to Strength. This is true for almost every league.

Read this page for information on the formulas and help finding a suitable build for your pet:

Unless you're running low on money, I don't see why you wouldn't train HP to the max.

I'm not saying you should only train it forever, but, to put it in an obvious statement, the more HP you have, the longer you can survive, the more damage you can do. High strength won't make up for that extra 2-3 turns that you'll get
