yeah i generally redeem it on my main and then on all my shells too. I keep the bag in my gallery and then send over the item inside the bag from a shell.

I would do that, but I've got better items I get from winning Qasalan Expelliox and limited amount of gift boxes.

how do you win items from expellibox? you only get NP or 150NC. Unless you mean you buy an item with the 150NC you win?

yeah i dont bother opening the bags either unless i really like the item inside. I wonder if theyre going to release 4 this year? It seems there has been a trend in bags released each year. 1 in the 1st year, 2 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and so on.

The benefit is a you get to have a bag. Or a cupcake crown. But right now the benefit is pretty close to zilch.

I wasn't particularly active on neopets until this point last year so didn't really notice a pattern - seems likely though. I know it's a free item but it would be good if the items were slightly better quality/had more potential for customisation..

The bag is free hence why everyone should redeem it. I dont think you will ever get much if anything for it NP wise as pretty much everyone will have one. You might get the odd collector wanting an unopened bag, but that would be highly unlikely. Im just posting the reminder here for those who havent seen it yet and would like to redeem it.
