It's not a question of whether or not the league system is a good idea. If you want legitimacy in 2-player battling, then that's currently the only way to play.

There are things called rematches you know... Also, preparing to block all icon types was never a problem. GFD has existed long before the elemental swords and it was never dominant enough to make people think shields were useless.

Anyway, back to my previous point. It's not that hard to prepare your set to come out on top of at least most of the swords. Having a Pteri beats the Air sword. J-ring has always been a good weapon because it could come out on top against PCC, now it also beats SoWL as well as the light sword. Having an FTab takes a respectable chunk out of the fire sword and owns the water sword. That's already 3 slots devoted to beating 5 swords. A bomb and a healer/CBT will take up 2 more slots, leaving you with 3 slots to either deal with earth or find a way to break even with it (PCloud is an excellent choice). As I said before, you're not trying to do turns that "blocks perfectly", you're just trying to have the edge damage-wise.

i admit it is possible to theorycraft your way to a perfect scenario against any set. now you just have to use the right blocker on the right turn every time or hope they don't use anything but the same two HT swords every turn

KLens is still terrible as the absolute best case scenario for it is that you come out even.

Are there any good, comprehensive Battledome guides around?

Anywhere?

Yeah, I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer. :(
I want a no-thinking (Do this, not that) guide to Battledome, lol.

Lol that works for 1p battledome not 2p. Even in 1p, you have to think a bit. The right time to defend/attack/freeze/heal. It varies most of the time on what weapons and icons come from your opponent's attack. 40% luck and 60% skill is what helps you in battledome

Anyone who thinks defense is useless on BD obviously doesn't have deep knowldege about the Battledome.

Defense has been downgraded with the new swords. Before tthey rlased them, with a G-Shield, a B-Fork and a dumb pteri you could almost seal a game against most non-insanely rich sets.
With the new swords it is a little more unpredictable, but not to the point that shields are not necessary.

You don't carry a shield thinking that it would make you untouchable (well, you are almost invencible with an defense 700 neopet on League 4 )
You carry a shield hoping to stay alive a little longer.
What is the point of bashing your opponent and almost winning if he/she can launch a finl suicidal ttack and get a tie? It would be a gam of luck. With a shield you are hoping to take out a chink of a big attack.

IMO shields only become useless if you are insanely rich (pea range) or if you have T-Tear + RSS and fight on the lowest leagues.
But even on those situations, you would be using defensive items (full blockers/reflectors, etc.) so...

that's simply not true.
simple example: your opponent uses 2xSAP, you use SAP and KLens
you reflect half of *each* of your opponents SAP and attack with your own SAP
result: (with both on cautious for simplicity): you only take 1 SAP while your opponent takes 2 - win

while the KLens alone surerly makes you even at best, you still have the other slot to do something

I agree with this.

A lot in the battledome depends on luck and probability. But defence is less valuable because you need to match the defensive item with the attacking item, it doesn't happen often unless you know exactly what the other person is holding. You best bet is a dual duty weapon, and again you need to know what the other person is using exactly. Defence is more like playing a reactive game and it really depends on what the your opponent throws out.

Some of you people really shouldn't be arguing if your only knowledge of the BD is theoretical. Well, it's nice to know that at least a few people here know what they are talking about.

yeah too bad its looking likely that IDB wont be coming back anytime soon :(

Sucks to hear what happened with their host being a douche and not giving them any notice to back up their database before shutting it down.

RIP IDB :/

i got my first battleset because of that site...i thought the information was good and definitely helped me in the Defenders of Neopia thing. Is there another site like it with item reviews and such?

What are these new swords that everybody's talking about?
