Neopets Training Guide: A Cost Analysis
Introduction
This is NOT a description of training methods. For that, check out Plunk's guide: http://www.neocodex....aining-methods/
This guide is meant primarily to help in choosing methods of training your Neopet for the Battledome by providing a list of NP/Stat Point figures for your convenience. All prices are based on the NeoCodex Item Database and all fractional figures arerounded to the nearest integer. For the purposes of this guide, time is also listed as a cost.
I have not included the Secret Laboratory because it’s the most cost-effective method of training. You should use it every day anyway.
I have not included Kitchen Quests because they are too inconsistent to put down a cost. You get stats roughly 35% of the time, so do the math for yourself.
SKIP TO CONCLUSION FOR THE TL;DR VERSION OF THE GUIDE
Traditional Training
Mystery Island Training School
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Slow, stat balance (STR/DEF/MOV not > 2*level, HPnot > 3*level), level limit
The priceof the Mystery Training School is paid in codestones, and that scales with your pet’s level. Here are some numbers. The average cost of a codestone, assuming the school asks for every codestone equally, is 4906 NP. Thus, the prices per stat points for your pet are:
For pets level <20, 4,906 NP (1 codestone) and 2 hours
For pets level 21-40, 9,812 NP (2 codestones) and 3 hours
For pets level 41-80, 14,718 NP (3 codestones) and 4 hours
For pets level 81-100, 19,624 NP (4 codestones) and 6 hours
For pets level 101-120, 24,530 NP (5 codestones) and 8 hours
For pets level 121-150, 29,436 NP (6 codestones) and 12 hours
For pets level 150-200, 34,342 NP (7 codestones) and 18 hours
For pets level 201-250, 39,248 NP (8 codestones) 24 hours
Secret Ninja Training School
Pros: Cheap(er)
Cons: Slow, stat balance (STR/DEF/MOV not > 2*level, HPnot > 3*level)
The SecretNinja Training School works exactly like the Mystery Island Training Schoolwithout a level limit. It uses red codestones, which are created by sacrificing ten regular codestones. The average cost of a red codestone on the Shop Wizard is 51,573 NP. Theoretically, using regular codestones to create them averages out to 49,060 NP, marginally cheaper than off the Wiz, but I will be using the 51,573 NP figure for this guide. Thus, the prices per stat points for your pet are:
For pets level 251-299, 51,573 NP/Stat (1 red codestone) and4 hours
For pets level 300-399, 103,146 NP/Stat (2 red codestones)and 6 hours
For pets level 400-499, 154,719 NP/Stat (3 red codestones)and 8 hours
For pets level 500-599, 206,292 NP/Stat (4 red codestones)and 10 hours
For pets level 600-749, 257,865 NP/Stat (5 red codestones)and 12 hours
For pets level 750+, 309,438 NP/Stat (6 red codestones) and12 hours
Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy
Pros: Cheap (some levels)
Cons: Really slow, level limit, stat balance (STR/DEF/MOVnot > 2*level, HP not > 3*level)
The Swashbuckling Academy is the slower, cheaper version of the Mystery Island Training School, except it caps out at level 40. Dubloons work slightly differently, because the number of dubloons something costs doesn’t scale linearly. For instance, a Two Dubloon Coin costs LESS than a One Dubloon Coin. I will give you the cheapest price per stat point. Thus, the prices per stat points for your pet are:
For pets level <10, 3,152 NP/Stat (1 One Dubloon Coin) and 4 hours
For pets level 11-20, 2,953 NP/Stat (1 Two Dubloon Coin) and 6 hours
For pets level 21-30, 9,433 NP/Stat (1 Five Dubloon Coin) and 8 hours
For pets level 31-40, 9,433 NP/Stat (1 Five Dubloon Coin) and 10 hours
Stat-Increasing Items
There are many items that you simply use on a pet that instantaneously grants it stat points. If there is a range to the number of points the item can grant, I have listed a price range per stat point.
WARNING: There are many stat increasers that only have a CHANCE of increasing your stats. They are marked by a ++ sign after the NP/Stat figure. This means the price could be infinitely high because it is possible that you never actually get a stat point with those items.
Neggs
Pros: Instant
Cons: Expensive, hunger-limited
Neggs are foods that increase stats. Because some Neggs add Movement as a stat point, I will include NP/stat figures for both with and without Movement. I will be using Shop Wizard prices as a reference. Thus, the prices per stat points for all the stat-increasing Neggs are:
Armoured Negg (+1 Defence): 29,577 NP/Stat
Basic Power Negg (+0-1 Defence): 50,389 NP++/Stat
Cool Negg (+1-2 Level, +1-3 Strength, +1-3 HP, +1-3 Movement):51,250-136,667 NP/Stat (Movement excluded)
Cool Negg (+1-2 Level, +1-3 Strength, +1-3 HP, +1-3 Movement):37,272-102,500 NP
Faerie Queen Negg (+1 HP): 99,999 NP/Stat
Ferocious Negg (+1-3 Strength): 100,000-300,000 NP/Stat and a random disease
Negg of Purity +1 (0-1 Defence): 6,267 NP++/Stat (VERY lowchance)
Power Negg (+1 Strength): 99,015 NP/Stat
Silver Knight Negg (+1-2 Defence): 49,861-99,721 NP/Stat
Super Negg (+1 Level, +1-3 HP, +1-3 Movement): 117,500-235,000NP/Stat (Movement excluded)
Super Negg (+1 Level, +1-3 HP, +1-3 Movement): 67,143-156,667NP/Stat
Shrooms
Pros: Instant
Cons: EXPENSIVE, hunger-limited
Shrooms are exactly like Neggs, but retired and extremely rare and expensive.
Level Up Shroom (+1 Level): ???NP/Stat (Ridiculously rare/expensive. Don’t bother)
Mega Power Plusshroom (+1 HP OR +1 Strength OR +1 Level): 8,000,000 NP/Stat
Purple Spotted Shroom (+1 HP OR +3 HP OR +1 Strength): 16,454-49361NP/Stat
Strength Shroom (+1-3 Strength): ??? NP/Stat (Ridiculously rare/expensive. Don’t bother)

Conclusion/Summary
Training at the Mystery Island Training School is the most cost-effective non-lab training method until after you have to start using red codestones. Then it might get iffy. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide when to begin using stat-increasers depending on how valuable time is to you. Here are the items worth using.
Tier 1
Name: Armoured Negg
Effect: +1 Defence
Total Cost: 29,577 NP
Cost/Stat: 29,577 NP
Comments: Cheapest stat-increaser for defence, which is extrauseful if you’re labbing.
Name: Cool Negg
Effect: +1-2 Level, +1-3 Strength, +1-3 HP, +1-3 Movement
Total Cost: 410,000 NP
Cost/Stat: 37,272-102,500 NP
Comments: If Movement is desirable, this becomes fairly cost-effective.
Name: Strength Serum
Effect: +1-4 Strength
Total Cost: 88,591 NP
Cost/Stat: 22,145-88,591 NP
Comments: This isn’t a food, so it’s not limited by hunger.
Tier 2
Name: Altador Strength Potion
Effect: +5 Strength
Total Cost: 270,000 NP
Cost/Stat: 54,000 NP
Comments: I would guess this is marginally less cost-effective than Strength Serum. It is much more reliable and accessible, though. No hunger limit.
Name: Faerie Queen Negg
Effect: +1 HP
Total Cost: 99,999 NP
Cost/Stat: 99,999 NP
Comments: This is generally worse than Cool Negg, but if you only want HP, this is the most reliable HP increaser.
Name: Mummified Scroll
Effect: +1-3 HP, -1-3 Movement,-0-1 Intelligence
Total Cost: 99,684 NP
Cost/Stat: 37,272-102,500 NP (Movement and Intelligence excluded)
Comments: If Movement and Intelligence don’t matter to you, this is more cost-effective than the Faerie Queen Negg. No hunger limit.
Name: Scroll of the Warrior
Effect: +1-3 Defence, -1-3 Movement, -0-1 Intelligence
Total Cost: 99,684 NP
Cost/Stat: 33,327-99982 NP/Stat (Movement and Intelligence excluded)
Comments: The Defence equivalent of Mummified Scroll.
