Alan Woods made exactly the same mistake, that should raise questions about the level of research actually put into writing that particular piece. Perhaps Mr. Woods was more interested in spouting nonsense and trying to make it fit his own political leanings than he was in providing an objective analysis of the recent events. Perhaps I'm still in critical analysis mode since I'm currently writing my dissertation but that's a pretty glaring error for somebody making such bold statements.

Alan Woods isn't a commentator btw, he's an author, respected political theorist, and a friend of many popular socialists and labour leaders.
Globe and Mail tried to use Alan Woods' frequent visits with Chavez as a way to invalidate and delegitimize the Venezualan president, by calling Woods his "advisor."
He's kind of a big deal.

Right on. Can I ask honestly if you read the article?
Bbecause the view on "sheer criminality" is quite covered, and I'd hate to repeat to an intelligent person like you something you've already read.

If you make comments on a subject it's fair to consider that person a commentator when spoken about in such context in my book.
I'm not particularly swayed by reputation, his piece is a poor analysis which lacks objectivity and is entirely focused on trying to portray the recent events as he wants them to be rather than what they are in reality, opportunistic and criminal acts of idiots.

Argument from authority? Way to go.
I was debating his pigeonholing of an important person as a "commentator." It would be like referring to Bernanke as an accountant.
He's not some random pundit was my point.

Cool, then we'll agree to disagree.
Unfortunately, I'm in the process of moving to another city in another province. Consider me officially resigned from this debate.
Edit: I came off harsh and rude a couple times, unfortunately I love a debate yet am clearly heatedly passionate about politics and current events. I truly don't mean to offend anybody, you're all cool people still, and I hope we can share a drink one day! Should any of you ever be in Montreal, I've got a pad for you to stay at. Cheers.

And I disagree that the view on "sheer criminality" is quite covered.
Just saying "The great majority were moved by other considerations" as a de facto declaration of truth does not cover anything.

Because I avoid the news. I doubt hundreds of 'thugs' are just going to riot for no reason, and for days.

Anyway, was there not a peaceful protest in the beginning, which eventually erupted into a full blown riot? People attending the protest had a problem, the rioters were just opportunists.

SCD-6 or Trident is a branch set up to investigate, fond causes, and eridicate the problem or gun (and knife) crime in black communities. This can range from arresting suspects or using Family liasion officers (FLO's) to help families cope with family members being involved in this situation.
I can safely say that the majority of robbings and gun crime in London is caused by black people. Likewise most drug related or burglary offences are committed by whitey. (seriously cannot remember the last time I saw a black burglar)
.
Also the bullshit that police lied over the shooting of Marc Duggan is wrong. As the Independent Police Complaints Commission had not issued a statement regarding this, most of the "facts" circulated were rumours. The family did not give the IPCC enough time to conduct their investigation.
This of course led to the whole police vs gangs bullshit we constantly get. I fail to see how burning down someones business/livelihood and home will affect me and show your hatred against us.
I'll remember that at the end of the month when I take home over £8000 through overtime.
Also if you wish to speak "minor" cuts we'll speak about a 20% budget cut to the police federation and all forces, higher than any other public/private sector, a two year pay freeze, limiting overtime, worse pensions, redundancies and working in over stretched stressful job.
This is of course music to the lefties ears as they hear some black people in hackney are thieving from JD Sports so they'll use it as propaganda. I'm sure people will change their minds if this riot personally affected their own families and businesses. Then again, we have to study riots and figure out how they started, don't we Simon?
Hope you're having fun in your cosy warm bed, 3,000 miles away in Canada. I'll be thinking of you when I'm having bricks and petrol bombs thrown at me.

I can understand the outrage of police brutality, but this has really just escalated into something senseless.
You English folk act like you're so distinguished and classy what with your raising your pinkie whilst sipping tea, but goddamn... What did Grandfather do to deserve this?

Like it's been said before, this isn't about the economy, this isn't about any politics. It's just a bunch of wild men on the rampage. It's like the riots you see whenever the Los Angeles Lakers win the NBA Championship. These people aren't rioting to 'stick it to the man'. They're rioting because destroying things gives them boners.
