Okay so i've never battledomed before. Im wondering what level i should get my pet to and which stats to get to what first. Also, What items to use (i already bought sophies elixer, not sure if its any good) and if i should work on abilities

I don't know if you have seen gwalle's guide on training your pet, but it has a lot of great info in it on the different items available for stat increases and such.
I am just getting interested in the BD myself, mainly for plots and avatars.

You need to choose a league you would want to battle on based on the amount of NP you're willing to spend on your battle set to stay competitive in the league. Generally the higher the league the more amount of NP you need to spend. The league you choose will dictate the stats you will have on your pet, and each league has various different ways to train. The guides should help you find the right build for you.

Get the ABILITIES DRAINLIFE SINK BURROW fiery gaze for 1p/freeze quench steam shield water breathing and get to level 30 or elvel 50 if you wnat berserk

LOL, my BD set is worth about that much.
The items I have are (off the top of my head):
Randomly Firing Freeze Ray (or you can try Snowglobe Staff if you want to be cheaper but I found it annoying to use)
Golden Compass
Rainbow Scroll
Downsize
Scarab Ring

These other weapons are just ones I have that I rarely use:
Glowing Meteor Rock
Sandstone Boots (or something like that)
Unstable Slime

Good one-use items I sometimes have:
Lucky Robots Foot (heals you fully once)
Thick Smoke Bomb (blocks all icons once)

I've heard Leaf Shield is good but I don't have one.
I feel like I'm missing an item or two, too. (Remembered it! I think Scarab Ring was all that's left.)

Keep in mind that I'm not a serious BDer. I used this set (minus even the Snowglobe Staff) to beat DoN I up to about mission 8, all of the current DoN II, and all of the BD avatars besides the Space Faerie. I had to use specialized equipment for DoN Mission 9 (10 is really easy) and the space faerie. (I'm only up to 10 in DoN I.)

But my pet was about 500-530 HSD (with closer to 300-ish HP) and level 50-150 (I was training level) with all faerie abilities.
I used {this guide, mostly (I think that's the right link).
