But they can't even speak proper spanish...
Holi should be Hola
como estan should be como estas
Which = Hello, How are you?
They fail at english AND at Spanish.
Perhaps it's Portuguese or some regional Spanish?

Pretty much. Como estan is the formal way to ask everyone how they are. I don't know about 'holi' but here, Spanish speakers say "Bueno?" when they answer the phone. Technically it means 'good', which makes no sense to a non-Spanish speaker, but I'm sure there are a lot of things we say in English that make them go "¿WTF?" Like when you say, "Go back to your country". They just don't get it!

I don't know any Spanish. I have never even tried to learn it. But I do utilize online translators
