Why does argue hate Norton so much? (Other than apparent slowing down of your computer)
I don't know why iargue hates Norton, but I hate it because:
- Invasive bloatware
- Inability to remove easily
- It pops up and fucks with my multiplayer games
- It is inefficient and sucks computer resources
- It is ugly

You forgot one more point.
Has more positive's then actual virus's found.

I use Norton Internet Security and my computer isn't slowed down at all.
Woot for free software.
If you want software that's actually free my dad the tech guy always installs Microsoft Security Essentials on every computer.

Well sure. And a bird who has spent his entire life in a cage, still thinks he is free.

iargue seems to really hate Norton with a passion.

I love how the assumption is that if nothing seems to be wrong, your computer doesn't have a virus. that's why millions of computers are part of botnets, because silly little people actually believe that they are virus free when they are not.
I'm a certified Computer Security Expert, and I'm telling you Norton is shit. Feel free to ignore my word on it, 2 thousand dollars worth of tests don't actually mean anything

He isn't the only one. I deal with all kinds of malicious junk. Dodgy crack websites, modified executables, I used to be an avid P2P user before bittorrenting started to take off. I've run through my fair share of potentially virus-ridden things, and the only thing Norton did for keeping me safe was making everything as difficult as possible to do quickly.
NOD32 and AVG are what I would recommend. AVG isnt the best antivirus, it's not even second best. But it will not slow down your machine AS IF IT HAD A VIRUS, like most 'security suite's do, and it does its job adequately.
I do usually keep ad-aware installed as a backup, but if you do a lot of warez or running cheat engine the false positives it creates will irk you to no end.

I'm with argue. I'll recommend you NOD32, AVG or Avast!
I used them, and they worked for me.

I'm a firm believer that if you avoid malicious looking websites and use some form of security on your web browser; that's all you need to stay virus-free.
That's pretty much all I do these days. Been virus free (at least anything major), for a good year now. I couldn't live without noscript.
