Interesting video. It's unfortunate that this discrimination will never disappear. :/

How come it feels like Americans have shifted to talking about legalizing marijuana to gay rights all of a sudden? Is it 'cause it's winter and gay people want to snuggle in public to keep warm?

Oh, I believe it will eventually. Not for many, many generations, but some day.
That is to say that it may well fester quietly in the minds of some individuals, but public profession of such bigotry will become socially stigmatised to a degree that that's where it will stay.

That's a great video, made me tear up a bit :p

I am amazed by the sheer support that the gay community is getting currently but agree with Sweeney, it will be a long road until being gay will not cause some sort of reaction. As with any other situation, there will always be a group of people who will hate but I pray for the day where those people make up such a small proportion of the population that their voices can be muffled by all the positive messages.

I saw that video too, and all I could think of was how well her parents had trained/brainwashed her.

    Great video.

I'm going to take this opportunity to post an online petition related to the struggle of 'second class citizens' which I personally took the time to sign: link@change.com

In brief, Pepperdine, a top 200 university in the US, has denied an organization called Reach OUT, a straight-gay alliance, official recognition on their campus. This despite the compliance of the group with every reasonable request expected of other student organizations. This isn't about gay rights. This is about the right to organize publicly without fear of repercussions from a hostile administration. Just yesterday, when I signed, this had less than 500 of 1000 signatures. Now it has 1000 of 2000 signatures. Your signature can help.

I used to be pretty homophobic. It was probably about 5 years ago when I came around and realized I was just plain wrong/brain washed. It was also around the time I stopped believing in religion.

My mom is still homophobic, as far as I know. As are most people in my family. It's the way they, and most people, are raised in islamic cultures. I find this pretty weird because my mom is actually a really nice person with lots of sympathy but this "hate" for gays is something she's carried with her for over 40 years. I don't know how she feels anymore, but I can honestly say if she found out I was gay(hypothetically) she would still love me, but I don't doubt that she'd come to terms with it immediately.
