Today, FileSonic discontinued their filesharing service, and can now only be used "only be used to upload and retrieve files you have uploaded personally"
Seems like all file sharing sites are trying to cover their asses after Megaupload.

Apparently Uploaded.to stopped accepting US visitors too. I can't see FileSonic lasting long with only file hosting and no sharing...

It really does suck that all the hype that the blackout built up isn't really applying to anything :/

I'm just waiting for the day where sites like youtube have to shut their doors b/c its too much of a liability...

Yeah, misleading topic title is misleading.

File sharing is a much more expansive term than a few sites that are idiotic about it. Even Kazaa would have been better than megaupload.

Besides, rapidshare is still up. And usenet and the torrentsphere will be around for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, the way the protocol is implemented makes it impossible(afaik) to take it down, it can only be prohibited. Even more so with distributed trackers...

    Ugh...

You know, if companies weren't so money hungry and greedy, I'd happily pay for their shit. But I'm not paying $50 for a new movie that I can download for free. I would happily pay like $10-$20. Same goes for music, if iTunes made it so you can pay $100, but you get like $300 worth of music, I'd pay it - but I'm not paying $3 for a single song, especially since I don't even need to download it from a fileshare website now, I can just get the MP3 off YouTube. I'm also not about to pay $400 for photoshop when I can get it for free, too.

For me. I just hate their customer service, and thus do not want to support them.

Why am I paying 50-100 dollars a month to watch commercials? Commericals should be done how google does it. Watch them to get shit for free. Not to PAY to watch them.

The same thing goes for movies. Why am I paying 20 dollars for a dvd, which I have to sit through 15 minutes of commercials before I can even watch it?

They want to make as much money as possible and don't give a shit about us. My downloading practies are an act of protest, not an act of not being able to afford it/or not wanting to pay.

At least you also get unlimited viewing of the DVD, and you don't have to keep paying to watch it.

Yet. Really it wouldn't surprise me if they tried. Or have tried already.

But yeah I personally download music to see if it's even worth buying, because I can't return a CD or DVD or game if I don't like it anymore, that money belongs to the store.

Alternatively I download programs because I need to learn them in order to get a job in my chosen field, and even student discounted licenses for Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush and so on are prohibitively expensive.

I'd like to see how they'd do that, unless they had a way to force the players to connect to the internet and took a credit card in order to get the DVD to play.

I, personally, download a few songs from an album before I buy the whole thing. I've done that with a bunch of my music.

The only music that I don't do that with is anything from Japan. Maybe if importing and shit wasn't so FREAKING EXPENSIVE, I'd actually pay.

I'll do this with anime too. I'll download a series that is fan-subbed. However, once it's dubbed, I'll still go out and buy the DVDs.

I think, in some cases, pirating stuff is okay. However, I don't think not paying for ANYTHING is okay. I'll probably catch a lot of slack for this, but oh well :\

Oh God, so much this, I only ever imported one full album because it was so ridiculous with the standard price on top of shipping that didn't take an entire month.

This right here is worth over $50 altogether:

xD I download books all the time and end up buying physical copies if they're good!
The same with music... though it has to be really good since i listen mainly to kpop and the price of importing is.... inhibitive to say the least.

The only way I can buy Japanese imports is at a con...which is at least a tiny bit cheaper.

I can understand a full blown pirate's point of view....but really? How would you feel if you put in months and months of work into something....only to get no recognition D:

This is probably one of the reasons I buy grossly overpriced anime at all.

That and looking at a giant mess of junk is more satisfying than looking at a folder on my computer of the same stuff.

You know, I used to feel that way. But in most cases, I watch a piece of media once, maybe twice and then delete it. I don't keep it the way some people collect DVDs or CDs. I don't get why people have walls of DVDs that they've watched once. How can they afford it? The only DVDs I have, I watch constantly. Or they were gifts.

It's satisfying to have books lying around that I can always pick up, I'll admit. I like rereading books a lot more than re-watching movies. But that has to do with the fact that a book is an act of co-creation by the author and the reader - the story only unfolds in the reader's mind. Movies are much more linear.

I rarely re-watch movies unless they have uncommon depth or amazing visuals. I'm never tempted to watch special features either. They're usually kitschy and short anyway.
