You know, I used to feel that way. But in most cases, I watch a piece of media once, maybe twice and then delete it. I don't keep it the way some people collect DVDs or CDs. I don't get why people have walls of DVDs that they've watched once. How can they afford it? The only DVDs I have, I watch constantly. Or they were gifts.

It's satisfying to have books lying around that I can always pick up, I'll admit. I like rereading books a lot more than re-watching movies. But that has to do with the fact that a book is an act of co-creation by the author and the reader - the story only unfolds in the reader's mind. Movies are much more linear.

I rarely re-watch movies unless they have uncommon depth or amazing visuals. I'm never tempted to watch special features either. They're usually kitschy and short anyway.

I used to do it too with downloads, until I realised I was sifting through terabytes of media and couldn't find anything I wanted to watch a second time, especially when anything I originally did want to watch again I'd already watched like 4 times by now. Now I just delete everything after watching.

This is so shit, I hope Rapidshare manage to stay alive. Torrents have always been my last resort, I don't want them to become my go-to source. Posted Image

The only music that I don't do that with is anything from Japan. Maybe if importing and shit wasn't so FREAKING EXPENSIVE, I'd actually pay.

    Yeah, same D:
There are SO MANY albums that I want to buy/want to support the doujin circles because, well, they definitely deserve it. But $40 shipping thanks to some middleman service, for a $5 cd? Yeah, no :V

:crybaby: Guess I'll just have to stick with Share/PD/dodgy-looking Chinese and Taiwanese sites for now.......

Similar to Patrck, I only buy things I will want to watch over and over, or share.
I also rather like having a DVD collection that is just great films. It's a matter of pride.

    TV shows too.
All I own on DVD is Firefly, Dark Angel and Stargate. Plus the odd part-series I've picked up from gifts etc.

However, I also hoard all my downloads. Sometimes I like to rewatch a film that I can vegetate to, or rewatch a TV show that I can't afford to buy.
Seriously. DVD prices for television shows are completely absurd.

There's a couple reasons to keeping all of it:

1.) I tend to re-watch a lot of the anime I buy, so it usually doesn't collect too much dust before it gets blown off again.

2.) I squander my money and love to purchase all the neat little "collectors editions" of different series I watch, so I got tons of those and I'd never throw those out.

3.) I one day dream I'll actually get some friends that share my crazy hobbies and I can throw all of my stuff at them and force them to watch it all so I can talk to people outside the internet about it.

This is how I am with CDs.

I don't see p2p rising to its previous popularity, so are Torrents where it's at now?

    Torrents are p2p O_o

No data is stored centrally, it's all peer to peer transfers. The only central application is logistics, aka the tracker.
