I have tried a multitude of different creams and lotions and exfoliation (which is actually the worst thing to do in my experience, they just come back even worse when you exfoliate). But when it all comes down to it, if I want smooth arms (relatively speaking, smooth for me anyway) for like a night out or something and I don't want to look like a witch barfed on my skin, I just have to force myself to leave them alone for several days. The only thing I have found that makes them any better is doing NOTHING (except perhaps a little moisturizer). No loofahs in the shower, no crazy expensive creams and NO PICKING
ETA: I don't know where the ingrown hairs thing has come from, KP is not due to or resultant in ingrown hairs. It's from your skin creating an excess of keratin that gets stuck under your skin. I know [what you're about to say] that hair is made of keratin but this is not the same.
I have KP (and probably OCD) as well, and I also squeeze the keratin out of the hair follicles on my legs. It's strangely satisfying, but it leaves my skin looking red and bumpy instead of just bumpy, so I try to avoid doing it if I can. Whenever my legs are exposed, I still find myself picking at my skin. I have KP on the backs of my arms too, but I've always been extremely self conscious of the bumps on my legs.

What type of "medical professional" did you see~?
Like redlion said, you should see a dermatologist given that this would be their area of expertise rather than a doctor's

A result of excess keratin forming around/within hair follicles (which is why the condition is called Keratosis Pilaris)
(&From what I've heard, it usually is also found in people who don't have enough vitamin A and/or have dry skin)
I'm not a professional though (I just turned 16 yesterday, what do you expect
(Some treatments will work, it's just that it's different for every person)
So just shut up and be mine~
videos that I promise will make you laugh ♥

I feel like I could have a job sitting next to a person like you and when you start picking at your bumps, it'll be my duty to slap your hand and make you painfully aware someone is creepily watching you pick at your hair follicles. I wonder if there'd be a market for something like that. I could also assist thumb-suckers and nose-pickers. *dreams*

You know, this is actually a valid point. When I am on cam I don't pick at my bumps at all because I know people are watching. Maybe if we all weren't computer nerds who spend most of our time alone this wouldn't be a problem
