I keep seeing plot synopsis for the Hunger Games and it seems like a total rip off.
Nothing can beat that gore classic. D<

The plot for the Hunger Games does seem pretty much identical to Battle Royale but you could also argue that Battle Royale was a 'rip off' of books like The Long Walk by Stephen King which also has a very similar plot and events. Writers tend to rip off each others' works all the time.

Basically it's set in a dystopian world where they have an annual walking contest where school boys are selected to take part and they have to walk above a certain speed and if they slow down they get killed. Like Battle Royale the contest continues until there's only one winner so it's a similar plot but slightly less violent.

Is there a movie? I saw the end of some random movie that sounds a lot like that. Actually maybe it was a tv advert, I'm not sure O.o

Not that I know of. It's probably been picked up for a future movie (like pretty much all of Stephen King's books) but I haven't heard of one being made. I'm most looking forward to the film and TV adaptations of The Dark Tower series because those are pretty amazing books.

I had totally forgotten about The Long Walk. I'm tempted to read it, but the last Stephen King book I read was The Mist, which somehow managed to be worse than the movie. And the movie had everyone in the cinema laughing at how dumb it was. And at the super serious, accidentally hilarious ending.

Deathmatches for quashing the population, sure, but where BR is very much focused on the stories of the individual players, The Hunger Games is much more about the wider impact through the eyes of one single individual.
