I found this on the neoboards. 38 books have been recently retired, these are definitely worth investing in as books are always being read for intelligence purposes and for the book highscore.

The retired books are listed in alphabetic order in the following format:

38. When Your Meercas Hurt (r40) -> 1100 NP -> 4000 NP -> 5900 NP

As you can see, all the retired books were between r25-r45 before being retired. However, retired books are pretty good investments, so I would highly recommend investing in some. I have listed the shop wizard prices as of 5:00 PM NST to help you see changes in price and to determine if the books are worth investing in. Good luck to everyone and happy investing :)

Updated again with the prices at 8:00 PM NST on March 28, 2012 (24 hours since original post).

I agree with TNT. Neopets don't need Algebra or Encyclopedias! Here in the real world no one knows any of that stuff and we all turned out fine. Just take a look at Mitt Romney or the Rick twins (Perry and Santorum)!

I bought 200-300k worth of these books earlier today and I've just been recycling as the price goes up and up. I made around 500k but it's hard work without a wiz sniper :/

Do we know which ones of these faeries ask for as items for quests?

The Water Faerie definitely used to ask for the Encyclopedias. I'm guessing TNT also stopped the asking of these books for quests though.

They will stop asking for them now that their rarity has changed
They ask for certain types of items with rarities up to 69 - so when the rarity changes to 180 they will no longer be on the list of possible quest items.

It's kinda dumb too. People buy them now with the hopes that they'll be come very rare and expensive in the future which is just making them expensive now for no reason.

Most of these books will go up about 1k a month. Sooooooo, this is a clear long term investment.

Based on what I've observed in the past, and taking rarity prior to retirement into consideration. I can say with 95% confidence all of the books will be at least 10K by the end of the week. Beyond that I'm not sure, but they definitely will stay buyable for a LONG time.

It all depends how long you want to wait, 2 key times you want to sell are:

1) Before the "recoil": Prices will go up quickly, but once they start plateauing, a lot of people start selling at once. If you aren't willing to wait it out longer, you should sell before the plateauing phase.

2) Before it becomes unbuyable: When an item is on the cusp of becoming unbuyable, those who do not wanna be stuck with unbuyable HTS items decide to put it in their shop for 99999, so you should try selling for around 90K at this point.

REALLY!?!? nice i managed to grab 100 of them when they were at around 5K...

Also quick question... if i want a good long term investment would it be smart to invest in the 5 different Neopian Encyclopedia books? Because of it sort of being a "set"... not really but you know what i mean, because of the name. For collectors and such later on... I'm thinking it would be a good long long term investment. (since im trying to go legit now i might as well start finding ways to make neopoints)

I gave up trying to buy a ton of each. I started getting 10-20 of each, then 5 of each, then I got bored.

I wouldn't recommend it, unless you are willing to wait 3-4 years..."Caring for your Neopet 1-5" book set retired awhile ago, and the set itself isn't worth much. Only a couple of the books in the set that are hard to get are worth a ton...

The book reading club was cool a long time ago... not so much anymore. There is I think one reason to read books outside of the trophy (isn't there a BD item that requires like 1000 INT or something?). Book investments are becoming as HTS as plushie investments. Sell while you can at 99k and get out.
