We're talking about drawing two different basic models for each pet, that would include different poses. It'd probably be around 8ish different pictures for each pet color.

Oh right sorry, I replied to this all at like 6am yesterday and was super sleepy x3 Yeah it would be pretty silly to do something like that, for a small pet site. It'd make more sense for a site like Neopets to do it considering it has a huge fanbase with mixed opinions on customisation etc but.. It wouldn't work all that well for something small D:

Just having mm 'unconverted' poses and all only allowing the pet to wear a limited amount of clothing items at a time could work well :3

If it's anything like neopets or even remotely close they'll make sure it's taken down. Reminds me of a site that was around a while ago called OldNeo which was basically a replica of Neopets in like 2001... That was closed really quickly.

Neo doesn't have a stranglehold on the concept of virtual pets, as shown by the miriads of other virtual pet sites out there. OldNeo was likely taken down because they stole Neopets' artwork, which they do have a copyright on.

One of the other websites like Neo could eventually become as big as old neo...they just need that 1 thing that makes them stand out...and none of them have figured it out yet.

Honestly, I've wanted to apply for a job at Neo many times. I live near their headquarters, and I have a background in technical department direction for website companies. I think they need some new leadership, like, five years ago. Everyone needs to be smacked hard and made to understand that the site is dying because zero new ideas are being implemented. Plus, the "all punishment and no reward" theme that most players experience gets way too old way too fast for most players to bother investing much time, energy, and money in the long-term.

But now that they've been bought out by Nickelodeon, there's no way I'd ever get a job there; competition would be too fierce. Regardless, they're either going to have to wake up, and soon, or they're going to be kaput.

How much of the old staff is even still there since Viacom bought them out? Old staff meaning Adam and Donna times.

Very, very little, I suspect. I'm sure Viacom replaced a good amount of the original staff with their own people. If nothing else, the original staffers who did stay on probably got lost in the integration shuffle.

Has anyone tried Mara Pets? It looks a little, er, cluttered. The graphics are not the best. But it seems - pretty much - like a clone of Neopets except with "doll" avatars.

I haven't, but it looks uninteresting.

Truly, the only other pet site I'd ever really consider joining is Subeta, and that's mostly because the artwork is superb.

So basically Digimon style evolution system is what you are recommending? That's not a bad idea, I'd like the user to maintain final say in what form the pet maintains though, just because it CAN be a Greymon 24/7 doesn't mean I don't want it reverting to Agumon the majority of the time.

 

I'd say also with evolving- depending on how you've trained the pet rather it be Strength being your more preferred trained stat, or if it's Defence and so on... that your pet has 2-3 different evolutions that it can possibly evolve into... if this makes sense. I'm not sure it's an idea already tossed out there, I'm on page 4 of 8 and still reading. and if this is a died down thread my apologies too :\
