Part A) Do any of you use any online streaming music services? (I'll include a poll) I tried spotify for a while and didn't care for the way I had to find songs, etc... Pandora has always been a cool project but I don't care for ads and it's only so helpful. Not to mention that since I switched to android, Pandora hasn't really been that useful. I recently switched to MOG myself and am very happy with it. My favorite feature is that ALL of the songs on MOG are 320kbps bit-rate and they have a much larger selection than any of the other services I've found. That and it has a cool similar artists feature that is similar to Pandora except you have a slider that you can use to control how far out you want for similar vs. same artist. Kinda cool really... I'd recommend you go check it out for free if you haven't heard it yet. (I'm not including any referral links or anything like that...)

Part B) Any audiophiles around these parts? I've been heavily investing (around 4k USD so far...) in a headphone set-up as of recent as I can't have speakers too loud where I currently live. I love the vintage vacuum tube sound and I love switching various tubes out to test them out... It's one of my favorite things. Posted Image I am considering getting a nice set of speakers and a larger tube amplifier but I don't have an extra 7.5k to put down on the system that I want and I KNOW the lady friend would absolute murder me if I were to spend ANY more on audio stuff... Posted Image (Not to mention that I'll need a new automobile soon. =/) Anyone around here have a nice audio set up?

Discuss all things audio here.

I haven't used any streaming services in quite some time. I used Pandora for a few years when it first came out... I didn't like that I couldn't choose what I listen to (besides the first song), or their ad scheme.

I just download.

I use 8tracks:

Listen for free to the best internet radio, handcrafted by people who know and love music. Or, share your own online mixtape, a streaming playlist with 8 or more tracks.

You're only allowed a certain umber of song skips per hour and you cant download the songs for free but these can be circumvented with the used of a GM script .

Hmm I still use Last.FM too, but mainly just for the recommendations.

I was a hardcore Pandora user (I had been paying for Pandora One for years) until Scot introduced me to Last.fm. In my opinion the free Last.fm radio is way better than the paid Pandora services. I always noticed with Pandora that there were a limited amount of artists that it would play for me, and I never quite got the depth of variety that I wanted. This is not a problem with Last.fm. The fact that it keeps track of literally every song I listen to (and incidentally that all of my friends listen to) is a huge plus for me because I'm an information whore.

I do use audio streaming quite often but I use multiple ones depending where I am, pandora mainly in the car, but the site you're talking about sounds nice I may give it a try

I have sunk around $7,000 in my working career on audio equipment in my car and house (mainly in my car because I drive a lot!) the cool thing though is in my house I have a central dock located in the bedroom, and can have it play all throughout the house (really handy for those pesky cleaning days) I also have a set of headphones (they're the beats studio ones, they were a gift) sometimes I think I've taken my love for music too far, but I laugh and keep going on

Pay for like $8 a month for Spotify. Unlimited play time, no adds and their song database is HUGE. It is well worth it.

Yeah.... I've put around 1.5k into my car audio over the few years as well. :S I'm considering doing something similar in my house where I use an Airport Extreme w/ 2TB hard drive as a NAS to stream music to anywhere in my home. Right now I only have a one area audio set up and I cringe thinking of the money to spend on other rooms... but my next venture will definitely be into loudspeakers. :D

I currently use the Beyerdynamic T1 headphone and I really enjoy it.

(That isn't my image although I do have both of that amplifier and DAC. (Will likely sell the amplifier soon as I have a nice one from Decware on the way.) (Also looks like Amazon has them on sale right now...)

As to the rest of you that currently use Spotify, you should check out the free version of Mog. The sound quality is immensely superior and they actually have a much larger selection as well as the cool Pandora-like function.

Ah yes that's around the amount I have sunk in my car (audio only wise) and the rest is the total it took to get my house in its current condition, the only thing I still have left to do is make some wall hide always to add more deep bass for when I'm in the living room and want to watch a movie, but that shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred since I already have speakers capable of it, it'll be mainly wiring and wall work.

That's a nice headphone set, I currently haven't really invested in headphones since I liv pretty secluded I don't ever have to worry about how loud I am being ( which is a great thing considering you can hear my home for a pretty good distance if it's all cranked up

Let me know how your home audio setup goes, I always love hearing about others audio systems

I don't really use them, sorry D: I made an account on last.fm ages ago but didn't really get how to use it and haven't been on it since x3

Downloading albums off Share/PD/Mediafire and just listening to them in Foobar does the trick for me~

..... What even happens on those sites anyways? Do you just add.. things..? to your media player of choice, listen to music and get recommendations from it or what?

No... you just listen to the music you find. If you like it you can always go out and buy/download it.... :p But you can listen to it as long as you are using their service without purchasing it as well...

I use Youtube Playlists... streaming songs, I don't watch videos on there so if it has a video or cover album it makes no difference to me and I can normally find more songs that I enjoy than through something like playlist.com.

O-oh, but I don't really like buying music (ahahahah paying $40 for shipping............ no) and like hoarding mediathings, heheh...... :p
I think I'll just stick to event upload threads for finding new music and stuff for now~

I use last.fm's radio when I'm looking for new music, but generally download for my day-to-day listening. I also like the listening statistics and social features last.fm has. If I ever want to stream, I have about 2000 songs uploaded to Google Music.

As a follow up... I stumbled into an old Pioneer A/V Reciever and 5.0 speaker system and hooked it up using my Tube headphone amp as a pre-amp. It doesn't sound nearly as good as my headphones, but it has got me very interested in pursuing the loudspeaker game. The sound is just more full over speakers! So I just bought a new 5.1 speaker setup from Mirage. (Omni-polar speakers -- Sound is directed in 360 degree waves instead of directly at you like a bugle... :p) I'd still like to invest in nicer speakers soon, but I think I'll just grab a Marantz Reciever with AirPlay capabilities and that should do me for a while... :p

I must say... as much as I've put into audio this year, I'm starting to think I'll need a second job just to keep up!

I use Spotify on my desktop and Pandora on my iPhone. Streaming from Spotify on your phone isn't free while Pandora is.
