So, unless you
a) are still using Corel PSP (o god pls no)
b) are devoted to your version of photoshop
c) are devoted to your version of photoshop because you actually dropped $800 on buying the program

You've probably heard about Photoshop cs6. I just downloaded the portable extended version. I haven't played around with it much, but it looks pretty neat, and as always, it's faster than the old version. If your computer can handle it, I'd suggest you download it.

Here's a neat run through of the new features
http://psd.tutsplus....-photoshop-cs6/

Some interesting ones
  • Video editing now compatible
  • New darker interface
  • New brush features; maximum brush size increased from 2500px to 5000px
  • Paragraph & Character styles
  • Auto-recovery ♥
  • Strokes without layer styles
  • Different settings to manage layers

So, what does everyone think about the new cs6?

I don't use video editing so i think it's just bulk added onto the program for me. I'm really glad about auto recovery though, it was a deal-maker for me ^_^

Hey link me please to the portable version!! Please please! PM would be nice. Thanks so much! I had portable CS3 it's not bad it's just the one I had. I use it for basic stuff. The autorecovery sounds amazing.

Yeah I'm loving the new features in CS6! Got me a copy just recently and I must say, its a decent enough step up from CS5 and the likes. The auto-recovery is awesome too. The content aware tool is quite spiffy too (if I could actually get it to work for me it'd be just that little bit more awesome).

I only do super basic stuff with it, I know for a fact the autorecovery is worth it. But anything else a basic user like me could find useful start? :D

I just learned how to do gifs in photoshop as I finally learned they did away with image ready and it's really cool!

Sounds good!
I never really upgrade right away just because I am always use to the version I have and just can't be asked to get use to a new one.
I heard about the new dark interface and thought that's going to take some getting use to but after reading the new features I think I'm going to get it.

Erodible brushes, definitely looking forward to trying those out.

Never really thought of upgrading my version of CS5, but since there's video editing and recovery I'm starting to consider a bit of a change. Thanks for the input about it!

Are we allowed to link to portable apps, cause if so I could link to the portable Photoshop CS6 that I'm using.

I personally like the UI changes, even though it came out of nowhere, it seems a bit easier on the eyes

I was out of the loop for this.

The auto-recovery beats every version, including my CS5 (extendeed).

no you cant. Its against Codex rules to post links to warez/illegal software.

What does the auto recovery do exactly?

I guess it auto saves files so you don't lose them if PS crashes.

How come everyone is so excited about that? Does Photoshop crash a lot from everyone?

I don't think PS has ever crashed for me, seems quite stable.

like in word, every so minutes it saves the file automatically in the background so you won't lose progress on your work ^_^

True say, always good to be safe! lol

You know what PS needs, a mirroring function so when you draw it mirrors it. That'll be cool to make patterns and stuff.

How is the interface? You reckon it's easy to get use to?

you could alwayys just duplicate the image and flip it :p
a little more trouble, yeah.
little things that would make life easier.

i haven't really started using it but so far it's not difficult. it's easier to see the image at first glance.
i think you can change it if you don't like the dark, upper right hand corner

Cool cool, has it crashed on you yet?

My brothers uses it at work and he said it crashes more than CS5 but obviously the atuo recovery is there to save you.
Don't know might just be coincidence.

Maybe they just added the crashes intentionally to show how cool the auto save feature was? :p jk, ofc. ;)

I've found that if I'm editing a lot of layers then it's more prone to crashing than if I've only got 1 or 2.
