It's an internet website ran by a private corporation. You aren't being forced to use Facebook, so stfu and accept the fact that they can do whatever the damn they please.

Basically, that's my autoresponse to people who complain about something like that. Don't like timeline? Go create your own social media website where you can have the layout however you want (*cough*myspace*cough*)
