Alright I am hung over so this may not be my best work, but bear with me...

Annoyingly long picture post time!

Munchkin is absurdly fun. Might not be too obscure, but I'd never heard of it until me and some people played for 6 hours straight last week. This game will destroy friendships.

I love Munchkin, I have several flavors of it. I have played it with Steve Jackson himself at a convention, which was at the same time incredibly fun and incredibly frustrating. It pisses me off that they made this stupid "board" for it though, lemme go find it

Yeah that thing, what the hell is that. It's something for you to keep track of levels and put your cards on. Munchkin is a CARD game. If you can't remember what level you are, write it down or use a d10.

Looks like something similar to "apples to apples" something like that :)

Really only in the fact that both are card games. Apples to Apples is just comparing things and picking which is best depending on your personal preference. Fluxx is more like... an adventure? You have victory conditions that change depending on the cards in play. Regrettably, I have never played it. Hoooopefully I will get to this week?

Alright starting off, this game is an absolute must have:

Everyone go buy it now. There is an older version in a red and black box, the only difference between the two is a few extra scenarios and correction of some inconsistencies in the newer version. Every game night I attend, this game is a must-play. It's not optional. How would I describe it to someone who has never played it? You are in a group of people trapped in a mansion which you explore. One of you is revealed to be the traitor at some point and everyone tries to stay alive while the traitor tries to kill them. The identity of the traitor is determined a'la Clue depending on which card and which room it happened in, and this also determines the scenario that unfolds (there are about 60 different scenarios).

Another of my favorite games is HeroScape. This is not really a board game, it's more like... Warhammer with plastic terrain tiles.

You pick a team of champions/minions/monsters and everyone fights to the death. The options for your team are endless, and the miniatures are pretty good quality. It requires a significant investment, and it's one of those games that your group of friends only needs one of. It's huge and super duper fun.

Ok just one more and then I'll stop. If you're a fan of strategy games like Risk or Axis and Allies, check out Samurai Swords (or Shogun, depending on how old of a copy you get).

It's set in the Middle Ages in feudal Japan, you fight in civil war against the other players in an effort to defeat them all and become the supreme ruler of the country.

That's enough for now :)

This is probably far more popular than I give it credit for but I've only met one group of people who knew this game. By far my favorite board game~

My dream is being able to find it here in Brazil, but I doubt I'll be able to..sucks for me! :(

Actually, they were referring to Cards Against Humanity as similar to Apples to Apples, which it is. Very entertaining and very "wtf".

HeroScape is so much fun! I wish I had it ;_;

brainbabe was referring to Cards Against Humanity.

Chappy, whom I quoted, was referring to Fluxx.

Ahem, I like ribbit, its a chess board, with only frogs for game pieces, and each can move as a knight does in chess., The first person to either get four pieces in the center or capture all the enemy frogs, wins.

I love board games! Some of my favorites have already been mentioned (Fluxx, Munchkin, Settlers). Here's some other favorites:

Carcassonne is a very simple strategy game that I love. There are a few paths you can take to win, and there is a collaborative aspect to it as well.

Posted Image
Ascension is another great strategy game, though much more complex than Carcassonne. It's a lot like Magic.

Ok, let's bring this motherfucker back from the grave.

First up, not terribly obscure:
pic636868_t.jpg
Citadels, a city-building game of hidden roles and violent backstabbing. Works well from two players all the way up to seven. Newer editions also include extra buildings and roles that add more complexity and replayability to the game. A+ recommended.
Cristen, of course, didn't want to play it. So I forced her, and she liked it, even though I beat her by a resounding three points.

Next, more obscure, courtesy of Kickstarter:
pic1534086_t.jpg
Compounded. A game where you use element crystals to make elements, occasionally blow stuff up, and figuratively screw your opponents in the BUTT. The Kickstarter edition also included expansions for extra players, and a few extra chemical mechanics.
We've played this once, in bed. It was a challenge, with all the modular boards and cards, but totally worth it. We both had A LOT OF FUN DON'T BELIEVE HER IF SHE DISAGREES.

And finally, for this post, a not-a-board-game-at-all:
5bd5e42080f402ad0a14261ab5bda6d8.jpg
The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Not yet arrived! I bought it without permission from my darling wife, based purely on the recommendation of Wil Wheaton. It is an indie RPG that is, as described by one of the authors, "a game of competetive lying", and is the only game I (will) own that actively encourages drinking.
You play a Victorian noble type of person who must relate a tale of derring do, during which other players may interject with challenges to your tale. To give examples: "Tell us, Baron Sweeney. Is it not true you once escaped from the Irish army riding half a horse?", and then later, "You fled under a hair of gunfire? But how is that possible, sir? It is well known that you have no stamina for running."
