Why on earth wouldn't this default to "new posts" instead?

It defaults to new members only when I click through from PMs or Status Updates, for me.

It depends which part of the forum you're in.

Is there ever a legitimate reason anyone would want to see that list over new content?

You know what I meant. :-P

Seems to me like 99% of the clicks to "View New Content" are destined for "View New Posts"

Just wondering if it's an adjustable parameter and if so, whether others agree it'd be a useful improvement.

I don't think there's a setting for it at all. You're actually the first person to mention it. :p

Just empty your cache/cookies or whatever it is that stores the settings for the site.

It should put you back at the original display which shows the new posts by default.
(That's what I did anyway.)

I have become used to double-clicking it now, though it is a nuisance. But at least it lets me browse the list of noobs so I can weed out the unacceptable names (which doesn't happen often enough for 'new members' to be the default setting from any area of the forum in my opinion).

My browser clears everything whenever I close it entirely, so I shouldn't have that issue then?

You sure? What browser do you use?

I find that marking everything as read will default new content to forum posts over a period of time.. I guess this is good enough if there isn't a better alternative.
