How desirable is peace at a global scale? The only effective means of getting people to be 'civil' to each other, so far, has been through laws that sanction undesirable behaviour. Sanctioning behaviour depends on a state- a social institution with a monopoly on violence that is free to "punish" people for the behaviours it proscribes. Global peace would depend on a global state that sanctions every country as it sees fit. We wouldn't just need our government, but to have our government subjected to another government. We'd need an empire.

Is peace desirable enough for y'all to give up your national autonomy? Are y'all willing to submit to the laws and regulations of a global state? Discuss.
