Seeing this topic back and running, I'll put in my FINAL two cents about cheating, specifically with ABing. After this, I'll just be eating popcorn like the rest of the lurkers

It is my up most ethical belief that ABing and SSers don't themselves ruin the economy nor the experience of the legitimate player. Is it when cheaters (good or bad, saints or assholes, victim or culprit) use their automation "play" with a higher ability than they already have. The only way ABers and SSers are completely neutral in my opinion are if they follow the same level of performance as if the user was playing legitimate in buy times AND frequency of restocking. For ABers, their times times need to match their natural buy times. For example, someone whose max speed within the 1800ms shouldn't AB with times less than 1200ms. The only reason why people are hating on ABers is because they give an advantage in speed. With all the trolls and crybabies in-game, they seldom never complain about the automation of the actions, but rather the insane speeds that cheater abuse. Coconut Bra.

Too bad you can have insane buy times and never get frozen.

Neopets is just doing boring without money... So it isn't a problem, we aren't doing nothing bad.

Really TNT win the same money with or without cheats.

it's a game. if i choose to spend my cash to get ahead, and others don't, that's their problem, not mine.

Exactly tnt's intent. Although I could earn faster than you by using more programs. :)

Before asking about the ethics of cheating we should ask TNT about their ethics of freezing users that had never done anything wrong. And yes, I'm still pissed that I have lost a very old account with years of honest work because they believed I cheated on it while it in fact was another account that is still happily alive and never had any contact with the old account at all except for sharing the same internet connection. And I'm even more pissed because that wasn't the first time I lost a non-cheating account.

And I have to agree with some other previous comments: I also was one of those who at first was completely against cheating. The first time I heard about Codex was during the Altador Cup. Before groups like SOTAC or STEALTH were the most hated ones but then people started talking and complaining about "those-who-shouldn't-be-named" (as far as I heard we really weren't allowed to be named and that TNT silenced or even froze people just for menioning the word "Codex") and SOTAC and co were forgotten as quickly as if they never had existed. Me being a loyal member to my team and of course a honest player also was against those cheaters - and on the other hand it was also the time I joined that forum, simply out of curiosity I guess though it still needed a bit longer before I got active for the first time.

I'm now cheating like no tomorrow to make up for the many years I have lost together with the old account - years where I had a lot more time because I still was at school. With a full time job and not living with mommy anymore and thus having your own household to take care of my time on Neopets became a bit limited. I don't want to wait for like ten years until I have gotten back to where I once have been because who knows if I will still be interested in playing next year? In that case it's better to quickly cheat my way back and then have fun with all the stuff I can buy with my cheated NPs now than having a frustrating long fight for every single NP.

I probably would have never considered cheating if it hadn't been for two reasons:

1)  My first account got frozen for something I didn't do.  I was eleven years old at the time (posing as a thirteen year old, thug life), and had been accused of using profanities on the neoboards.  This was something I certainly did not do.  At that time, the rainbow fountain (the first installation of it) had been introduced, as the Lost Desert had just come out, along with the Lost Desert Paintbrushes.  In order to get tickets for the rainbow fountain, you had to complete offers from neopets sponsors.. I did all of that to get enough tickets to dip my Lupe and turn him Desert.  I was frozen a week later, and at the time I was really heartbroken.

2)  Nowadays, if I did cheat, it'd be because of time restraints.  I'm working three jobs and getting a master's degree in school.  I'm not the type to abuse a system, so if I cheated, it'd just be enough so that I could live comfortably..I have no interest in being filthy rich.  But I don't cheat because I'm very proud of my aged account, and I don't want to lose it.

1) Earning nps 'legit' is not very fun especially when your hard work over a few years can easily be taken away within a second by a freezing

2) If TNT wouldn't want less programs, they should let nps and items be generated from multiplayer games (eg kq) rather than single player ones (rs, flash games, etc)

3) TNT doesn't give a shit about its users, legit or not. I recently saw on PC that a frozen user got a response to her ticket 16 month later telling her that they cannot unfreeze accounts that have been frozen for more than 1 year. WTF is this logic, TNT? And all those crappy automated responses and 'we cannot reveal why you were frozen' crap just makes it even better.

4) When I legit rsed, I bet I have been beaten countless times by abers, so gotta make up those items.

I only cheat cuz tnt did extremely dumb stuff when I played legit, and as result, I lost interest to play legit so I joined Codex. As for ethics, TNT violated their own rules more than I could have. Of courses, whenever they do, they come up with a lame excuse that can only fool a 4 year old instead of admiting their mistake.

I think freezing someone who has put real money into their account is more unethical than cheating in flash games that will only give out virtual money. If someone cheats on games where you can actually win something (real money or other real prizes that are then sent to you) then it's only fair that such accounts get frozen because it's the same as stealing. And the same should count for Neo - if you use a hack program to obtain the things that are normally only obtainable by spending your own real money or if you steal someone else's account then (and only then) they should ban a user. But not for an ordinary flash game. Being frozen because of a flash game is like being thrown into prison for several years or completely banned from society because you cheated on a game of Monopoly.

Heck, I have PAID for some features of Neo - REAL money - and then my account gets frozen because a SIDE account (which wasn't even frozen as well) did things that hadn't even anything to do with that real money.

Seriously, TNT, let the cheaters cheat if they want to, let the other users be mad about them and you stay out of it, just like it would be with any other game in real life. The creators of Monopoly also care a crap if I cheat while playing with my friends or not.
