I think that the General Chat forum should have it's type changed to a Category instead. We have several good forums buried in that forum and some that never get touched because of other, more active forums.

We have an entire category for Neopets, lets have one for General Chat as well.

Not a terrible suggestion. Wouldn't hurt to combine General Entertainment and the HW/SW section together.

I don't really feel as though a vote is appropriate for something like this.

No, the fact that it's pointless makes it a bad idea.

No, the fact that it's pointless makes it a bad idea.

Except that it's not pointless. It opens the forum up and allows for other, less used, forums to gain more attention and activity.

The very idea promotes forum activity.

No, it pushes other forums further down the page, decreasing their visibility to new members.
For the people who access general chat normally, they will see the other forums at the top of the page anyway, and for people who browse via "New Posts" only, the effect will be nil.

Overall, your idea has a negative outlook.

Duh.

Except, just as I already stated the very idea incites more forum activity.

I just don't think it should all be tucked away and hidden like it's some dark secret.

When was the last time that the Forum Games forum was frequented?

frequented. I didn't mean when was the last time someone stumbled in there and posted out of boredom. I mean when was the last time it showed real activity?

The fact that you stated it, doesn't make it true.
The programming and arts general chats are still front page, and they see very little activity.

A better solution would simply be to do away with the neglected sections altogether, and have those types of topics just float about in General itself.

You're posting more.

On a serious note... I think that they wouldn't be neglected nearly as much if they had more front page time. It wouldn't have to be forever, just 3-4 months or something to see if they do better like that then buried as they have been.

Uh, like never.  It's basically there for extra flavor, not substance.  It doesn't even contribute to post count; it's not meant to be somewhere that's frequented.

Also as an aside they moved general to the bottom of the front page because they wanted the Neopets stuff near the top.  Making General its own category wouldn't mean that the subcategories would get any better visibility because they'd still be at the bottom of the page (and wouldn't be seen unless the person scrolled down anyway).

I feel that due to the layout now that the sub-forums inside of sub-forums are being flat out ignored. At least before they'd be stumbled in more often. My point is that with the new layout there is virtually no chance of anyone stumbling in there unless they've misclicked.

It doesn't need to increment post count to matter. Post count doesn't matter anyway. :p

Yes, specifically because you requested it.

What you think is very, very often wrong.

It's actually not.

It's me suggesting it that you find wrong. More so than the idea itself. That is your shortcoming and not mine.

You do realize that Sweeney is always right, don't you? His PhD in being an exceptionally intellectual human-being, makes him far superior to everyone else on this Earth. Arguing is futile.

Don't be silly, that can't be "wrong".
I find it amusing that you enjoy lauding your ignorance as expertise, though.
