I think homophobia has insecurity and "hyper-masculinity" (that Mishelle speaks of in sports) at its root. People who are comfortable with their sexuality, for instance, wouldn't feel butthurt (heh) for 16 years when someone accuses them of being gay.

I don't feel different about anti-gay behaviour from sports stars vs. anyone else. It's just unacceptable and makes me think less of them. *shrug*
