i'm an advanced member though, i just am unsure how to update prices. do advanced members also have to post in a thread?

You can't update prices yourself in the database until you reach 500 posts. The title of that thread is a little misleading. Even though you've purchased advanced, since you don't have 500+ posts you cannot update the DB. So yes, you will have to post in that thread.

Maybe someone could edit that thread to title it: Updating item database for members with under 500 posts? (or something along that line). Instead of "updating item database for non-advanced members". Seems it make a bit more sense (and be helpful to our newer members who wonder why they can't update the database even though they purchased advanced).
