- So versatile! Nearly any fruit will taste good in a well-executed pie. And have you ever heard of a savory cake? Didn't think so.
- (Potential) to be healthy! Fruits are ~nature's candy~ and at least better than the refined sugar you get in frosting. Meat pies often contain vegetables, that's at least three food groups if you include the crust.
- Satisfying and complete! With cake you're usually either in it for the frosting or for the cake. Get rid of that cognitive dissonance and enjoy pie without guilt or shame.

I mean "cake" is in the name but it's basically a pie by any other standards...

Also...I'm assuming you're thinking pies vs. cake in terms of dessert in which case I don't count meat pies.

That sounds gross, but also seems fairly similar to sugar pie. I had some in Quebec this summer and it was surprisingly delicious.
My answer to this poll depends a lot on whether cheesecake is considered a cake or a pie.

What Nymh said. If cheesecake has its own recipe I vote for that...basically because you can get the best of both worlds with cheesecake. It can be made with fruit and be quasi-healthy or it can have a cake layer and be delicious, OR it can have both and be downright illegal/amazing/better than sex.

Ah, cheesecake. I think it should be a category of its own...its appeal is too universal to even consider in this debate.

Ok, barring cheesecake then I'm going to have to go with pie. It's a consistency thing, for me. Cake is great but pie is better.

I've never liked pie. Ever. So cake.
You've always preferred the flesh of newborns, then?
I prefer yogurt/fruit smoothies.
That's completely different though! Don't you ever want solid desserts?!

I dont really like cake except for mexican Tres Leches (big surprise) - I just hate cake frosting, its too sweet.
I guess I would have to go with pie.

I also like how pies can also have whip cream (if you want it sweet) or it can just be "healthy" like apples

Cake is served luke warm and it's just like sweet bread. BORING
I do, however, love cheese cake and ice cream cake. Neither of which really are yeast/bread cakes.
So in conclusion, PIE FTW MUTHAFUCKAS
