Not sure if this is already done here, but if it was I haven`t noticed since the only major areas I've been on was the AvatarLog. But anyways after reading the ``AMA on r/neopets" thread in chit-chat, although the reddit was deleted I did read through the forum posts and saw

There wasn't anything too interesting in there. A lot of it was about how they don't freeze someone randomly and always have a reason. Some interesting things that I remember from the thread:

  • They are very aware of Neocodex and other sites in our category
  • They freeze based on a pattern of breaking rules. It's interesting that she didn't mention any automated freezings occurred even though we know that exists. I suppose it's because it's a program that takes care of it so monitors don't even see it.
  • Monitors don't handle unfreezings so it's usually not the person who saw you break the rules that unfreezes your account. They are in two different departments.
  • Monitors read forum posts and neomails and pretty much any type of content you are adding into the system

Now, from what I know about HTTP Referer on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia....ki/HTTP_referer) to sum it up basically when you click a link to go to a website, it also tells that website the page you were on when you went to that link.

So what I'm going to propose (though it may take time to get to all the links, specifically in the clickable avatar section) is that we "anonymize" our links, because if we're already logged into Neopets if any TNT guys there bothered to check who's coming from what, wouldn't they be able to see some members coming from neocodex (which, according to Hydrogen's quote above, they are aware of this website). Originally I got this idea from a RuneScape botting website called RobotzInDisguise, where they outright banned direct links to the main game due to Jagex (the developers of RS) were cracking down on bots. So as an extra pre-caution the links to RS would either have to be typed out manually or made as an anonymous link, so there'd be a less chance of being connected as a bot-user

There's one anonymous link creator that I know of, but if anyone knows others that'd be good to. Here's the one I'll put up for your analysis http://anonym.to/en.html

I remember pointing this out for programs but indeed looks like it needs to be done on the forum as well.

I've personally always just clicked a different site before heading to Neo so as to change my referer header but automating such a thing would make my life easier.

As just another example of how this would work, in the clickable avatar section

http://www.neocodex....&view=clickable

If we were for instance to go to the first one "Acara - Angry Prince"

http://www.neocodex....llinfo&view=243

The link for the Royal Male Acara is the Neopet "Art"

http://www.neopets.c...p.phtml?pet=Art

What we would do is add "anonym.to/" (or whatever anonymizer service the programmers decide to use) to the beginning of that url to hide the Referer information

http://anonym.to/htt...p.phtml?pet=Art

Perhaps even use the forum filter system to anonymize any links posted on the forum if possible as well?

This used to be in place I think, but when we upgraded the forum software, it got removed. Would definitely be handy to get something back in place for the end users peace of mind.

I agree, ShadowLink64, Pyro699 or Hydrogen would be good choices.

I sent Hydrogen a message, and he said he would see what could be done. Thanks for all your input guys! Might not have much of an effect, but if TNT ever decides to take this route, it would help in staying one step ahead of them
