The Neocodex item database statistics are:

Statistics Total items: 40,905 Total priced items: 32,549 (79.57%) Items priced in the last 24 hours: 26,723 (65.33%) Items with owner information: 30,584 (74.77%) Unbuyable items: 3,252 Users currently pricing: 219

The total items of 40,905 is 3116 less than Jellyneo's item database which has 44021 items.
It's not a tremendous difference but it is significant.
Jellyneo also has "our database contains information on every item currently in existence on Neopets, including some items that have never been released!" So they do have some extra items.
Anyway, the reason I am pointing this out is to let people know that if you're looking for something and cannot find it then try Jellyneo. If you happen to search for an item that does not appear, please add it to the Neocodex item database.

Does that count NC items? Because we do not store information on NC items yet.

We focus on items which are active in the economy so the items which we don't have will tend to be those which don't restock or are otherwise not active and therefore not really important for our uses.

I'm curious. For the people that use one or both databases, are their prices more accurate? Do they list price data? Or trends? Because those would be more important to me than an arbitrary amount of hyper-expensive items, or retired items no one is likely to see.

Having information on every item is irrelevant if it's not good information :p

Their prices are not as accurate, due to Neocodex's database is constantly changing and theirs is manually changing. How do people know about unreleased items?

All of their prices are added manually so our buyable prices are probably better but they probably have more people updating their unbuyable prices more regularly. They don't really have price trend data either apart from a table of previous price updates but they usually have like weeks/months between updates whereas our buyable items are usually fully updated every 1-2 days. If you take a newish item, for example, the Plumpy which I added into the database a few weeks ago you can see that we have new prices every day for it:

We may as well store info on NC items also. They're all just sitting on the NC Mall. If anything, it will put us in closer competition to JellyNeo.

(I see they also optimized their pages for search engines or changed them recently, so we should look into making sure our pages are optimized as well.)

Does the Mall have every single NC item in there?

You're asking someone who hasn't played Neopets (for srs) for like 8 years. No idea. :p

Their database has a no-NC item option which results in 38,716 items...which is less than neocodex's count of 40K+.

Also, if you only look at active, non-NC items (which excludes not announced/unreleased, searchable only, MIA, no trade, and 1 player BD items), then JN's database has 35,838 items, about 5K fewer than neocodex. So obviously the neocodex database must have at least some NC items included...along with lots of paintbrush/no-trade only type items.

Pricing especially for buyables tends to be more accurate on codex in my experience, especially if you don't have SSW. But, the JN database does win when it comes to special lists/accurate rarities though. Also, JN tends to add items the second they are released/found/mentioned - so when trying to find information on very new, recently released items the JN database is better.

Edit: Just search 'mystery capsule' or 'superpack' to see some of the NC items included in the codex db :)

Can you purchase Mystery Capsule with NP? It had to have appeared in one of the main shops or a user shop to be in our database, unless someone approved an NC item that someone manually submitted. :/

Not necessarily but probably. :p

I presume there isn't anywhere on Neopets which has all Neocash items, right? (to anybody)

Purple Twirly Shell is a UB, not a buyable. There's none on the SSW and I sold one for 190K.

I also sold a Golden Shell for a bit over 7 Mil.

This was fairly recent.
