I got influenced by that youtube documentary series: Wall Street Warriors.

Take a look at these graphs and let me know what you think.  I was thinking of making a bot that would sweep in and buy a bunch of one item, a few days before the upward trend in past years.  The ones that look like they'll increase in the very short term seems to be the clovers...

Anyone have any other ideas for items like these?

Thanks, looks like more of a long term trend, but still worth noting as there definitely is a trend.

Added to the list.

Those charts show that our price tracking is actually pretty good at following fluctuations. :p

In the real world, the first person to get their hands on something like these charts becomes a billionaire.  In the Wall Street Warriors series they were talking about some guy who got rich off identifying the migration patterns of elephants in Africa- he was able to play the market to his advantage thanks to that info.

Spotting trends is a very lucrative business :D

I've always wondered about trends like that in Neopets. Is it actually due to increased demand in the market or is it due to a select few who want to inflate prices? It's like the whole thing with the codestones, I honestly don't think the prices rose because of increased training but because of people just hoarding them because they think prices will rise.

Like another item is like this: http://www.neocodex....ng-for-your-pet

It's for the avatar you can only get in August. But I feel like it won't shoot up in prices very much this year since so many people are stocking up on the book, and most of the demand for the item is driven by people who want to inflate its price, not get the avatar.

I doubt that will inflate much this year, if you notice on the chart it's been getting lower every year as more people have the avatar. I'd guess it'll do 10k at the most.

It'll be interesting to see if the trend changes once somebody has noticed it exists.

This one has some potential, however it hasn't been around for more than 1 year.

This one to sell mid-april:

Actually, the peaks seem to be linked to the actual dates of Easter itself so it should probably be early April this year to peak as Easter is a bit earlier than last year. ;)

This is a brilliant idea and a nifty tool neocodex has.

However, posting anything on here could potentially inflate prices artificially if a bunch of people buy certain items hoping for a spike in profit.

Maybe in previous years yes, but now I doubt they will raise in value much at all. It seems more and more people have achieved the avatar over the past couple of years since it was released and according to the tracking data in the item database, it's been on a steady decline every august since.

Also, this was asked/answered a few posts above if you had bothered to read it ;)

This is the only problem with this system. When people notice these trends you end up with false inflation where everybody could potentially end up sitting on a load of these items with nobody to actually buy them at the inflated prices. At that point somebody inevitably panics and prices theirs lower and you end up with a price crash. :/

Oops sorry about that. When I saw the title the first item that popped into my mind was Gourmet Cooking since I made quite a large profit from investing in it last year.

Exactly, but much better phrased. Things with a clear history, like the V-card, are safer bets than others.

Anyone know what is making this jump up?  Could be a good long term investment if I knew it would jump up again like it did in the past?

Not sure, it doesn't seem to be seasonal though. It could be a potential case of false inflations since there's a relatively small number of them on the shop wizard so they'd be pretty easy to inflate just by one person. I can't see there being much demand for it though so I wouldn't say it's a legitimate investment item.
