When I'm studying, I always have a set playlist that I listen to that keeps me focused. I was just curious about what songs you listen to to keep you on track.

YouTube or song title/album title. Doesn't matter to me.

I pretty much listen to all of Mumford & Sons with the volume really low when I'm studying. It's nice background noise.

Also, this song keeps me calm.

i always listen to upbeat songs, usually kpop or europop... i'm studio-based (studying architecture) so i don't have to focus much when i'm doing my work.

I didn't even know there were other music threads lol. Yeah, that makes sense though. I'm a writer so I have to listen to calm/quiet things so I can hear myself think.

Work Bitch - Britney Spears is my newest work-out song.

if I'm studying I never listen to music anymore. But Carmina Burana is one I listen to while I'm doing assignments.

At work we pump kidzbop. No joke.

Makes me want to slit not only my wrists, but the wrists of every kid that sings along.

For schoolwork I usually start with hiphop to get some lyrical inspiration, and transition into slower music (The Magnetic Fields, MGMT or Modest Mouse) for longer projects.

An example of the sort of hiphop I listen to for inspiration:

But since you started out with Brand New, I'll give some examples of what I consider "slower" music, which has little to do with the tempo and more to do with the speed of the vocalist's speech.

^Dopeness

Live version is longer and extemporaneous.

Of course there's always Elliott Smith if you've never heard of him. Start with Either/Or and then get the self-titled or Figure 8.

^Fionn is real chill. Calm yet catchy enough not to put you to sleep.

^ new age shoegaze with a sweet video.

Also James Blake.

I'm a real orchestra person at heart, and I find that orchestral/instrumental junk keeps me going when I'm trying to do work or study.  Most of the time I just turn on the symphony station on Sirius and go from there.

If that's not possible, though, I turn to the PMMM ost, whoops.

I usually fire up some Metallica and/or Megadeth. Depends on the nature of the work though.

Go to Pandora > Search "John Williams" as the seed > Enjoy.

If you're feeling bold, add Hans Zimmer, or even the composer of your favorite movie.

The lack of lyrics really helps me maintain concentration on my work.

Calming piano music does it for me, particularly tifa's theme from final fantasy 7

It heartens me to see the number of people who listen to orchestral and instrumental tracks while studying.

Keep up the good work, brave soldiers of righteousness.

Otherwise, some good ole Sinatra goes a long way:

Mumford and Sons are pretty epic when it comes to music to study to. I also listen to movie soundtracks (instrumental). It helps keep me focused.

Since I usually don't study more than an hour at a time...

Though really can't go wrong with most classical music.

Pachelbel's Canon in D is just my go-to for unwinding, de-stressing, studying, etc. :)

Well... except for that one time with the llama but...

Lately I've been studying to a lot of chill EDM. I'm reasonably new to the EDM/Trance/Techno genre, but Spotify has a really good selection to choose from.

It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm doing some writing, something upbeat (taylor swift is first choice lol) usually keeps me focused and on track and helps me to power through it.

If it's something that involves a lot of math or something though I like listening to classical music. I have a classical piano station on pandora that I LOVE and! I can also listen for new songs I want to learn at the same time :)

I got so much relaxed when I'm listening that song, so I study listening this and other TDG songs.
