And yes, cashews are, in fact, seeds. But from an allergenic perspective, they are considered nuts. Just like peanuts are, which is one of the most common "nut" allergies - to something that is actually a legume.

That depends on whether people who know that cashews are not real nuts, but don't know that tree-nuts can still cause allergic reactions, really deserve to be warned

The warning "Contains nuts" on a bag of cashew nuts is not 100% useless. It is useless enough to be part of a joke, however.
