It's still a couple weeks off but the stores had decor and candy set out for it the day after New Years - or so it felt. I was at Walmart the other day, and the entire candy aisle was pink. They also had a separate aisle just for special heart shaped candy boxes and V-Day decor. I didn't know how to feel.

Do you love it or hate it?

Personally, I don't really care. Some people call it 'singles awareness day', but I just see it as an excuse to eat all the candy I want.

Either way, there are still some annoying, funny and cute things that float around the internet as the day approaches. Post 'em here.

The only person that ever thinks of me on v-day is my mom, she always sends me a box of chocolate with a card!  I guess that means I like Valentine's Day.

Yes! The mom gifts on valentine's day are always the best :p

My school hosts Singing Valentines where you pay a bunch of the choir kids to sing and dance around the person of your choice. You get to write a card and the person gets a lollipop. I have both given and received them and have to say it's worth the money to embarrass the person of your choice. And candy.

We did something like that in elementary school (lollipops and cards). In high school, we had a table set up a few days before Valentine's Day where you could pay for carnations ($1 each) and send them to whoever you wanted.

Oh... we also did a thing where every girl got a paper heart on Valentine's Day and you had to give it to the first boy you talked to. The guy with the most hearts at the end of the day got something or other. Oh lawd.

Nowadays it's a huge marketing scam, but the concept of Valentines Day is beautiful.  I mean, I think you should show your affection towards the people you love all year around anyway, but it's so sweet to have that one day of the year to make a bigger fuss than usual.  We're lucky in Wales, because we get two x) one of which being on the 25th of January.

I'm sad to say though, that Valentines Day isn't the same for me any more.  Two years ago I spent that day in hospital as my dad was dying, it was horrible :/

Still, it holds a lot more meaning because of that experience.  It's not just about showing a partner how you feel about them, but family and friends as well.  I guess I have a new found appreciation for it. <3

valentines day seems fun but the people where i'm from don't really get it. every time valentines day approaches, questions will arise like "why not celebrate valentines everyday?" lol.

We should start celebrating Valentine's Day like Japan does. With a bunch of girls giving me chocolate.

...Not that I know any girls, anyways.

I don't like Valentine's Day. It's overcommercialised and dumb.

It's disturbing that my mom sends me things (specifically chocolate, on valentines day) to let me know she thinks of me? Interesting.

How is that disturbing? As far as I know, sending somebody chocolate does not equate to wanting to have sex with them.

I don't have any reason to dislike Valentine's Day, but it's not my favorite holiday or anything. I usually get chocolate and a rose from my dad, and sometimes my mom gets me candy too. My boyfriend and I generally exchange cards, chocolate, and small gifts if we can afford it. We usually go out to dinner a couple days after Valentine's Day to avoid the rush.

I'm posting so someone can get a free kill, I don't want to start counting how many hours of sleep I can get.

As for the topic, do hate stuck, and Valentine's day is not celebrated here, so I never cared about it...

I know some people who say that too. They say, "I don't need a day where society guilt-trips me into showering my partner with love and gifts! I can do that any day without buying overpriced chocolates and flowers!"

They have a point that Valentine's Day is over-commercialised, which I agree with.

But on the other hand, nobody really usually takes a day to spoil their partner with chocolates and romance any other day apart from on Valentine's Day (and maybe their birthday).

For that reason, it's nice...

I personally enjoy it. It's styled as Friendship Day for your friends as well as Valentine's for your special someone. Me and my friends used to take the weekend before Valentine's and make paper roses, and we'd give it out in school to everyone in class and people we'd see around school but never talk to. We'd make some extra and give it to the people on the MRT (subway) as well, cause everyone hates the rush hour on the train and it's nice to see them smile. It's a cheap and easy way to bring some light to someone's day, even if they hate Valentine's. I like to think no one is grouchy enough to turn away a bunch of kids giving them handmade paper roses.

Never celebrated it when I was single and then my bf and I agreed to just ignore it. In the end, I was still sad we treated it like any other day.

I'd like to think of it as a day to cherish your relationship/friendships. You don't have to spend a lot of money (or any at all), just take some time to spend with those important to you. It's not really possible to do that every day. I don't mean my relationship is not important and I know it supports me in everything i do but most of the time, one of us is busy. So it's nice to have valentines to calm down and put these things first.

@Sweeney Agreed, if you want to show someone you love them, why do you need a certain day of the year to do so?

This will be the first Valentine's Day in years that Daniel isn't away training for Winter warfare. IM EXCITED.
We probably won't do anything but still, not being alone will be great.

Apparently we're having a party in my Spanish class on Valentine's Day.

(Yes, I'm in college. My teacher is just very fond of parties.)
