Starting: NOW!!!
Entries Due: February 7, 2014 (7:00 PM NST)
Voting Ends: February 13, 2014 (7:00 PM NST)
As an elite, esteemed, and totally pampered member of the Codexian Scriveners' Society (hey, if you post or lurk these boards, then you already ARE a valued member), you have been tasked with writing either a piece of prose or a bit of poetry with the following title (and thus writing topic/theme):
"A Day in the Life of [insert a fellow Codexian's username here]"
Obviously, you will be replacing the bit in brackets with an actual Codexian's username. You knew that though, right?
Entry Rules and Voting Criteria are provided below, both of which should help guide creating your entry.
ENTRY RULES:
1) The Neocodex Rules must be followed (see this link for complete rules), or your entry will be disqualified. In particular, as I could see it potentially popping up in such a contest, neither malicious nor pornographic material in your entry will be tolerated in the least.
In short, no asshole entries will be allowed.
2) The minimum entry length is a haiku (5-7-5 syllable structure); the maximum length is 500 words.
3) Poetry entries, you know the variability that constitutes such (if not, I can provide links upon request), so I shall not elaborate here for now. Prose entries, you have at your disposal a number of vehicles, including (but not limited to) anything from a descriptive paragraph or two capturing a single moment or several moments within said Codexian's day, or an entire short story: it's up to you to decide what you wish to create within the prescribed length limit.
4) NO GRAPHICS OR PHOTOS will be included with your entry for voting consideration, so unless you are just wanting to waste your time coming up with something to go along with your poem/story/prose that no one else will see anyway, don't bother spending time on anything to supplement your written entry,
5) Having said as much, however, you should feel ESPECIALLY free to make use of any and all Neocodex emoticons in your entry.
6) Entries must be sent to me by the deadline posted above. Please put "CSS #1 Entry" as the subject line, and thanks very much in advance.
7) If you would like to make your authorship anonymous (as many of the most amazing writers/poets with introverted souls have preferred to remain throughout the centuries), PLEASE LET ME KNOW WITH YOUR ENTRY so that, when the thread listing winners is posted, I will put "Anonymous" rather than "[Your Username]" for your entry. Username/entry connections will only be known to myself and to @Emily, our beloved Contest Team Leader, since we need to have at least two people know for to keep things fair.
VOTING CRITERIA:
1) Your piece should serve to amuse, intrigue, or horrify us Neocodex folks...as such, writing about a Codexian who has been dormant for ages, or from whom no one ever witnessed activity, would be quite pointless. Voting instructions will inform that voters take into consideration whether the selected Codexian is worthy of spending the time to have a read-over an entry about them.
2) Regardless of how many entries are in the running, you cannot vote for yourself (sorry!).
PRIZES:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners each get a trophy and a selection from the prize pool (listed below).
$12 Neocodex Store credit (donated by me)
Green NeoBoard Pen (donated by me)
Pirate Draik Egg (donated by Napiform)
(If at all interested in doing so, please message me if you would like to donate a prize.)
I think for this contest that I will go the way of Ivysaur and Scot by having a collection of prizes that the winners can choose from, rather than assigning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes; the style that they have gone with seems way more fun and popular, so yeah I will TOTALLY copy that.
SPECIAL KUDOS to @Scrafty for helping me come up with this contest idea!!!
