POPULAR POST!

Hey,

I just quickly created this neopets pound database. It simply catalogues all neopets that get abandoned in the neopian pound. Quickly able to sort by species, color, level, price etc. It doesn't distinguish between pets that are already in the pound and those that have been adopted. However, it does by default sort by time abandoned in descending order, so the pets closer to the top are more likely to still be up for adoption. Fairly easy to browse for Neopets to adopt.

Peace out.

Yes, though just from looking at that site it seems manual and not in real-time? The link I posted is all automated and should grab pets almost as soon as they're added.

How do you do that? Do you have a couple of slave accounts that sit there refreshing the pound?

Otherwise looks nice. Bootstrap makes good-looking web UIs easy :p

From a quick look at the pound site with Firebug, new Pets are loaded with javascript from this page: http://www.neopets.c...get_adopt.phtml

This JSON page stays accessible even when logged out.

Oooh, interesting, thanks

I wonder how long it'll take them to fix that glitch.

Lol, I don't think they're going to fix that. I mean, look at Habitarium xD... and that is a game breaking bug.

Well,  that makes checking lost quiggle useless.  When I checked there was an ice, a couple of snots, Dar, a couple of+20 level and one +30 level pets up for adoption.   Amazing.

Not to mention a Pea  Chia.

Most of the more popular colors are taken though. Do you check and remove pets that have already been adopted?

Eh. I don't intend for it just to be a database of pets still in the pound (I rather like the idea of logging all pets that go through the pound and having that information available). I suppose I can add a flag to filter by status (i.e. still in pound or adopted), I'll just have to find a lightweight way to check and then have it automatically run through and update every 15 mins or so. I suppose I can implement that in the morning.

edit: I was also contemplating adding an option to create a custom search, and from that build an rss/atom/xml feed. Could be used to alert you when a pet is abandoned that matches your criteria, or could even be used in a program that actually adopts the pet for you. Though, it's probably too technical for 99+% of people and therefore nobody would really take advantage of it.

Yeah, I didn't expect you to actually delete them from the database :p I also understand that you are primarily interested in pound statistics but most people will use your site to look for adoptable pets.

i think the general rule is don't try adopting the ones that are customized because they're already taken.

Yea that's fair enough. Will work on implementing it now.
