Can someone explain the how the I-staff reflects light, its a bit confusing. Also what would happen if someone attacks with both dark and light icons.

Hi, me again.

Istaff only reflects light when both light and dark are received in the same turn but there are special conditions.

Let's say are attacked with light.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.gifdarkness.gif

All of the dark is blocked. This is the damage you currently receive light.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.gif, but we're not done yet.

The light damage creates a clone of itself out of thin air: light.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.gif

25% of the extra icons goes to you light.giflight.gif

75% gets converted into dark, then goes to your opponent: darkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gif

The damage you receive in total is light.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.giflight.gif

The damage you reflect back is darkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gifdarkness.gif

So I receive more dmg, its just 75% of the original light is duplicated as dark and reflected back. Uhh I don't think that's really worth the price of the item, WoDF is better. I-staff does less healing/dmg but you receive more dmg not to mention earth is easily blocked.

What happen's when only light is received? It doesn't reflect light when only light is received? Both dark and light have to be received in order for it to reflect it?

Yea if there's no dark then you receive the full light damage. It's true that WoDF is much better especially when you consider the ton of SoS (and lack of light icons weapons), but you only go for these weapons for the constant heal. Overall IS is much more efficient in terms of costs.

ya but its cost is still relatively high, I alrdy have WoDF, plus my whole set kinda works better with WoDF since I have K-lens to def against dark and light and I have an item that does earth dmg so I-staff not really needed just wanted to clear any confusion I mean it could be handy in certain scenarios (such as I-staff vs WoDF directly) but atm no need to get one.

Wow, this is great. You need to make a guide like this for like the top 50 highest-end battledome items that could potentially be confusing to some. I know I would be all over that just like I want to be all over

well you gotta look at your complete set, whats your set like? Me Personally I don't think its worth it, its only for a very situational use. It does less healing and dmg then WoDF. Even though it blocks dark and reflects light it forces you to take 125% dmg in total. So not really worth it, especially since a small difference like 25% can mean alot at that level of battle.

Both icons need to be present or it doesn't activate.

No

The only other weapon that behaves this way is Jhudoras Wand and it behaves in the exact same way with the way dark icons function replaced by air. Also no healing.

Sadly there aren't any more huge quirks because the original innovators of the BD left early on. That's why every weapon in the last 10 years is a carbon copy of another one with the icons swapped around.

I thought reflection was broken in the new BD? Am I just stupid?

I still believe an IQuest is worth questing for... especially if you're going to sell it.

WoDF is a much better option, but significantly more difficult to quest for.

Reflection is still broken in the new Battledome. They've stated they're going to fix it, so hopefully JumpStart actually does something about that and other non-working features.

Why don't they just give a new name to this mechanic? It's not "reflecting" anymore. Maybe "refracting", "amplifiying", or "doubling".

Why does everyone think WoDF is better? The most important factor is the metagame. Since this is the top-tier weapon, literally anyone you face would have either IStaff or WoDF. If you have IStaff, you win or tie against every other person. If you use WoDF, you lose to an IStaff user. Therefore IStaff is better.

It is better as a counter to it's counterpart but not its better. Unless you use the I-Staff when your opponent uses WoDF, the WoDF does more overall damage.

Agreed. I don't see much mass earth defense in the current meta which makes Istaff's offense pretty respectable, and it has great synergy with HNMS for staying alive and healing at <20% hp. So it's got some solid uses given the current meta. The <25% hp heal on WoDF is significantly better though, as is its damage output if not countered by Hanso Charisma Charm or another dark blocker. So it's clearly the better item.. Istaff is just nothing to sneer at either.
