Hey All!

I've recently had an idea to create a Neopets names database for Codex. I'm not too sure if there is one on Codex, but I'd like to give it a shot.

Often, older and inactive users of Neo have their accounts deleted, along with the pets as well. Many of them RW/RN pets (which are highly sought after). Do you guys think it would be cool if we had a program that searched such names of users who were last spotted 'a long, long time ago'?

I'm basically computer illiterate, so I'd love to cooperate with someone who make this possible.

Anyways, open to feedback. And if there is some sort of Codex program that already exists, well, then, *facepalm*

:)

Sounds interesting. This has kinda been done with pet names for 3 letter words that haven't been taken yet, so theoretically it should be possible.

Yeah, as in a data base that has all 'desired' pets names that are 'due' to be removed. So users can check if those names are free/taken.

I'd have to collaborate with someone who's happy to write the program. :)

Are you sure it's really "often"? I just checked my old frozen mains pets and they're still there. Were talking about like 8 years here. Under which circumstances are accounts/pets deleted, do you know?

Yeah, it's not all that 'often'. But still, it'd great to have a place where we can keep tabs on all these pets. Neo just seems to keep getting more deserted. I'm sure TNT will try and tempt us to stay by giving us fresh names. I swear we hit an all time low today. I saw only 7k users online O.o

@Nadrak is the king of name finders. Maybe he can put together another app that will search for more good names.

I think it's aimed at more common names like "Kate" or "Jennifer" or other names that might have a chance of purging. But still, even then it's less likely I'd say, there have only been two purges so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Magical , However, TNT rarely does purges (so far every 2-3 years or so) and they just had one not too long ago, less than a year ago. So it's likely his program would sit gathering dust for a year or more...

You'd also have to keep in mind everyone who had the program/database would be stalking the names in the database lessening everyone else's chances of getting that name, on top of legit Neo users who may be stalking those names as well.

It just seems to me that it wouldn't be a very practical program/database to have. There's too many flaws.

@Kate Yeah, I remember a couple of years ago there was one. It destroyed one of my first accounts that I had lost. It maybe even worthwhile to compile an indefinite list instead of a program, so that when they do clear the system, we'll at least know what's out there and have a better chance than the legit users. :p Lol *stalkers*

I don't think our chances would be any better unless we had a program that automatically created the pet upon it's purge. :p

Oh really? @Kate I guess, Neo users have become a bit more crazy lately...

What about another database that contains all words used in a dictionary, that can find RW names that are not taken in Neo. Unless we'd end up getting really obscure names/words? :(

I think an "untaken RW/RN" list is more plausible than a purge stalking database :p
I mean even if some of the names are obscure, some little gems could be hidden in there too waiting to be discovered.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. I'd love some judicial name :p You're right, definitely more realistic. But we should still nominate someone to yell "PURGE" when it comes :lol2:

Oh I'm sure when the next purge happens Codex will be filled with discussion and cursing about names we've gotten and missed. lol

It's addicting! Last purge I had a list of names which I obsessively stalked for days.
We'd also have to keep track of where TNT's purge was, which letter they were on.
Most of my names were on accounts that started with letters way at the ass end of the alphabet haha.

Oh man! Did you manage to snag any? :*

Yeah, I'd like to get as many people involved, that way we have a better chance of anticipating when it'll happen :D

I got a few but not the ones I wanted the most. They either didn't purge or someone snagged it faster than I did.. Some cases I woke up and it had purged :(

Protip: Never sleep. lol

Made me laugh a lot that comment jajajajaja ("King of pet names" award look good :p).

@Magical or any other person, tell me how can do It (exactly what to do, not how to) and I'll try to do it. One database of names are unstable, because at the moment when we release it, all good names will be created in less than 30 days (at most). So, to avoid that, I can do / upgrade the program that I have done on the past. Let you find your desired name without having a list accessible to all (including non-Neocodex users).

Here my post:
All 3 letter available names:
http://www.neocodex....vailable-names/

4 and 5 letters name finder:
http://www.neocodex....ble-pet-finder/

And your magma pool time finder:
http://www.neocodex....ol-time-finder/

Tell me how to update my programs and I'll do It.

Thanks.

The way that I was thinking this could work is that we could have a word list, and a program could iterate through that list and attempt to find any names that hadn't yet been taken. You could also add two words together, sub a couple of letters for numbers, whatever you wanted really.

Similar services already exist for domain names: see http://www.panabee.c...-name=crazy pet

Loving this Nadrak! The next purge isn't anticipated to arrive until the second half of the year. So hopefully we'll have a bit of time to iron this thing out. But yeah, I'm loving the feedback! :D

Yeah, like a progressive Database that can continually be added to by Codex users (would be good to have it advanced only). It'd make things a lot more practical and efficient when the time comes! :)

So I can't bump this topic to the top, I'll need something more "substantial" to type.

*thinking*

Does anyone have any feedback? I was thinking an advanced membership viewing only for the eventual name list/dictionary word database?

This would be awesome-- the problem with most of the existing untaken name-sites is that they're never updated and half the names are already taken u_u

I have no possible way of confirming this so *shrug*
