I wash my hair everyday because I feel like it gets dirty easily. I also have trichotillomania which is an impulse control disorder, and dirty hair makes me want to pull more :/ It's not bad or noticeable or anything cause I've brought it down to once or twice a week (depending on if I'm really stressed or not). I probably need to buy a shampoo that doesn't make my hair feel dirty after a day though lol

For another semi-life hack...use conditioner instead of shaving cream.

This actually works really well, you can use shampoo as well, but I don't find it works as well for me.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a life hack, but shampoo every other day (or less). If you don't have super-oily hair, it won't get as gross as you might expect. I am fairly invested in having decent hair, and since I've cut back on shampoo I've noticed that my hair has been less dry without becoming slimy.

You save a decent amount of money, spare yourself the excess estrogen, and help out the environment. It's a win-win if you ask me.

Any thoughts?

I've heard that shampooing your hair too often is bad for it.

The oils are needed and are what keeps your hair healthy.

I wash my hair about every 2-4 days depending, but honestly it looks the best at day 3 without being washed.  I just put on a shower cap so I can wash my body though, but realistically it should be dependent on how oily one's hair is.  My hair is so thick and dry that it needs the oil to weigh it down, and when I wash it too often I end up having to put in leave in conditioner/gel to tame it, but oil works just as good and it doesnt feel or look noticeable.

Do it! It's well worth the couple of day adjustment period. If it's a bit oily for a few days (especially if you tend to have oily roots naturally) just wear it up :p

It does take a bit more time when you're mixing the bicarb soda. The conditioner/ apple cider vinegar rinse can be made in advance though and you can just stick it in a water bottle and put it in your shower. If your hair is naturally pretty dry, use less bicarb and more water in your mixture, and more apple cider vinegar than water in the rinse. Leaving the vinegar in for a bit longer also helps - I used to

I started doing this yesterday and my hair is pretty much disgusting.

I've heard you need to play around with the mixture until you find one that suits your hair type.

Add some sliced cucumbers and grape tomatoes. That should freshen it up a bit.

lol Trinity has coarse hair and Jill and Tessa have more normal hair.

I can tell you everything my hair is not. I've only been to a hairdresser once though and I don't remember if she specified.

From what I've seen on Cam you have coarse hair too. It goes wavy which usually indicates that it's thick/coarse/rough (like mine).
What did your hair do when you tried the mixture? Was it too oily, too dry, to stringy?

Maybe we should define coarse real quick, cause my hair definitely doesn't feel like Trinity's, and that's what I'm thinking of when I think of coarse. She has ethnic feeling hair from her puerto rican/dominican genes, it's just super straight instead of curly. My hair is really smooth, but it isn't thin. It can hold braids and stay in buns, but not curls.

My hair is super greasy right now, whereas with normal shampoo I could go 4-5 days before it getting like this.

it just clicked - I go to bed with wet, tangled hair every single night and just brush it in the morning and put it in a bun. I think that's why it's wavy when you see it, it's been in a bun all day.

Personally i dont have straight or oily hair, but i think dry shampoo is a really neat thing. Its pretty useful to bypass the time until the next hairwash since the hair wont grease that fast and it wont smell bad (you can basically compare it to baby powder in sprayform, lol)

among both the afro/frizzy hair- and long-hair-communities it has been a longknown fact that washing your hair too often is on long term basis pretty harmful for your hair (especially if you want to grow it long, for the reasons as mentioned above that shampoo cleanses the oils, but also lots of shampoos/conditioners have sulfates in them, which basically puts a film over your hair and keeps it from absorbing nutrients from your conditioner for example) and its actually better to try to prolong the process of hairwashing+conditioning as much as possible and try to use dry-shampoo everyday instead.

it may sound icky but personally it helps me a lot since every hairwash is p much a nightmare to me (and i use shampoo+conditioner+hair masks each time). i really envy everyone whos able to wash their hair before school/work/whatsoever without having to style them for hours previously. also it would be wise to stop using regular shampoos/conditioners and switch to natural cosmetics instead.

Shampoo my hair twice a day! I use RPR, Biolage or Grown. All do great things for my hair. My hair stylist is often amazed at the quality and health of my hair.

Quality people, quality! :p

On a side note, I do have OCD :p
