In an effort to continue where Kordelia's "Wild Hair" contests left off, I would like to introduce to you the first official edition of the NeoCodex Photographica Contest.

stock-illustration-23042941-digital-cameNeoCodex Photographicastock-illustration-23042941-digital-came

I am sure that you can guess what the overarching theme of this contest is:

Photography!

On the first Monday of each month, a theme will be given, and a deadline set.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, will be to take a photograph (or choose one from your own back catalogue) that satisfies the theme as best you can manage.

There will be two winners each month, one selected by a small panel of judges based on my own criteria, and another based on a public vote. There will be no runners up, and one person may win both prizes.

Prizes will include a shiny award, and potentially donations from community-minded members.

Each month's winners will then help judge the next round, and be ineligible to win (although they may enter for fun!).

This month's theme:

Patterns

(Bonus: incorporate a springtime motif)

This month's deadline:

Wednesday the 14th of May (Midnight Pacific Time)

This month's examples:

Spoiler

Rules:

All work must be your own. Duh.

Post-processing must be minimal, unless otherwise noted.

Submissions should be PMed to me.

Are there size limits? I know when I get raw files from my camera, the dimensions are usually like 2000x2500 or something big like that.

:p

That's actually more helpful towards Hawaii. I know I always hated having to cater towards other timezones.

I love/hate photography. The times I love it, I buy a camera. In the times I hate it I have the incredible habit of burning them.

SO... I guess I'll just use my husbands phone since I don't have any presently. :p

Great contest, by the way. :3

This contest makes me wish I still had access to a dark room. I miss that.

I don't. Dark rooms made me stank to high heavens. It especially sucks that I go to lunch after photography and people gave me weird looks on the lines for smelling acidic and not the lemony kind..

Haha I don't miss the smell, or stained finger nails, or stained everything else. But in all seriousness, the darkroom was my favorite place through high school. I loved working in there so much I'd go to school at 6:30 and wouldn't leave till after 5. I was totally a photo geek and I loved every minute of it! I actually really miss using my creative juices, pharmacy doesn't really allow for that too much. Its been forever since I've actually taken a picture for arts sake.

A darkroom at a school?!?! Wow... We were really not given much at all at our school...

Any ideas on how to use an iPhone in a better manner or if there is a more specific app I should/could use to improve quality or something?

This sounds really neat, I probably wont join in because I don't have a (good) camera. But I'm excited to see the entries.

An iPhone is a quality camera already. You don't have much control over the settings, but you can still take very good shots with just the default app.
